FRIDAY RUNDOWN: THE LEMONATOR AND NHL TRADE DEADLINE!

A whirlwind week in sports came to a triumphant close on Friday’s Episode #951 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it all off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL trade leftovers as over 60 deals were consummated!, 2) Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter is attending interviews but not workouts at the NFL Combine as he faces reckless driving charges in Athens, GA, 3) Our thoughts on the ongoing Aaron Rodgers drama in the NFL, 4) The Brier opens in London, ON, 5) The Riders sign WR Derel Walker, 6A) The Pats host the Winnipeg ICE Friday night on TSN and NHL Network (why is it not soldout?), and 6B) Week 14 in the NLL opens Friday night with Buffalo at Halifax.
  • The newest BC Lion – defensive end Shawn Lemon – joined the show from CFLPA meetings in Palm Desert, CA. The Lemonator discussed this week’s signing with the Lions, and why he left the Calgary Stampeders after an All Star season? Shawn discussed his career and said he entertained offers from the fledgling XFL and USFL however he wanted to continue his pursuit of a Hall of Fame career in the CFL.
  • Hour 2 was devoted entirely to Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline and we were joined by Colorado Avalanche TV Voice Marc Moser from the Avs practice facility. The panel examined Colorado’s moves this week and Moser explained how three key deals one year ago directly led to a Stanley Cup championship. Rod said Avs fans are spoiled having Moser and radio voice Conor McGahey call games and Marc talked about the unique career of Conor (who doubles as Denver Broncos stadium announcer).
  • 13-year NHL veteran, broadcaster and scout Rich Sutter joined the show for two segments and gave an expansive look at the NHL trades so far. Rich is also the Ambassador for OFX, the official currency exchange company of the NHL, who presented the Trade Deadline. Rich noted that the L.A. Kings did not expect Jonathan Quick to end up back in the Pacific Division after dealing him to Columbus this week. Rich said he hoped to see the Calgary Flames to make some moves, which they eventually did just before the 3 pm ET deadline.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day was Julie Stewart-Binks of Sportsnet New York. Friday’s was Shawn Lemon!
