THURSDAY RUNDOWN: THEO! PLUS STANLEY CUP, CFL & CEBL TALK
Thursday’s Episode #993 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – truly had it all with more special guests live from Ace Casino Airport Calgary on Game+ TV, WQEE and Streaming! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it all off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including a disagreement between Dallas Eakins and Elliotte Friedman on the Sportsnet panel!, 2) The Blue Jays fall 8-3 in Boston, 3) Tonight’s NHL games include a Watch Party at Ace Casino Sports Bar for Game 2 between the Panthers and Leafs, 4) The CFL Draft only drew 25,000 viewers on TSN according to 3DownNation. What do you do if you’re the CFL?, 5) NBA Playoffs, and 6) The Winnipeg ICE sweep out the Blades and are off to the WHL Final.
- The iconic Theoren Fleury joined the show for a deep dive on the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the NHL coaching scene. Theo still isn’t a believer in the Maple Leafs because they don’t work hard enough, and said the days of the Old School coaches like Darryl Sutter are over. Theo also feels the relationship between the Winnipeg Jets players and head coach Rick Bowness is irreparable following their season-ending news conferences.
- Calgary Surge CEBL President Jason Ribeiro joined us at ACE Casino to preview the team’s first season in Calgary and talk about all the exciting things happening as they get the franchise off the ground! The Surge open their inaugural season May 27 at home against the Edmonton Stingers.
- We were scheduled to be joined by Slapshot Sweethearts Podcast host Shannon Walsh to discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs however she was unable to make it. Instead, Rod answered questions from viewers about the CFL, the Draft ratings, and a mini preview of the season.
- The Key Auto Group daily poll question was: Who should win the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year – Matt Beniers, Owen Power or Stuart Skinner? At press time, Skinner was leading by a landslide.

1) I’m a little surprised at the restraint Dallas Eakins shows on that panel to be honest. He has to sit there and offer his input. Then work in tandem with what I would call a gossip and others would call an “Insider” – there is no such thing as an “Insider”. It’s a 1930s Walter Winchel type gossip columnist where these guys essetially send out information some front office gives them to test the winds. To sit there and look at Elliott Friedman and not fill his face in when the guy essentially gossips about a working man’s job… Read more »
