FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: RIDER CAMP REPORT
Fridays have always been reserved for the gridiron on The RP Show and we tackled the CFL’s biggest topics on Episode #1,004 of Daytime Sportstalk on Game+ TV, WQEE and Streaming! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Florida Panthers downed the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in quadruple OT in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Final 2) The daily poll asked who’s the Conn Smythe leading candidate for NHL Playoff MVP?, 3) The CFL announces its preseason streaming and US TV details, 4) Free agent QB Cam Newton gets an offer indoor football’s Albany Empire, 5) The Blue Jays are home to the Orioles on Friday night, and 6) Junior hockey playoffs, NLL and more.
- As promised the panel debated who has the CFL’s hottest uniform! Rod said it’s the Winnipeg Blue Bombers royal blues while Moose opted for the Toronto Argonauts double blues. The audience chimed in with their picks which included 1990s era jerseys and third uniforms.
-
Leader Post sportswriter Taylor Shire joined the show live from Roughriders training camp in Saskatoon for a recap of the first six days. His QB rankings are: 1) Trevor Harris, 2A) Jake Dolegala, 2B) Mason Fine and 3) Shae Patterson. Taylor observed that “everybody looks good in camp” and said the team is in search of new leaders to replace the likes of Cody Fajardo and Charleston Hughes.
- The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Who’s the Conn Smythe leading candidate – Jack Eichel, Joe Pavelski, Sebastian Aho or Matthew Tkachuk? At press time, Tkachuk was leading by a landslide.
- In Hour 2 we were joined by Ottawa broadcaster A.J. Jakubec. The Senators broadcast host discussed the firing of GM Kyle Dubas by the Maple Leafs and said the team can’t seem to figure it out. A.J. is also the Voice of the RedBlacks and believes new head coach Bob Dyce will be able to turn the franchise’s fortunes around, but not immediately. He reported that star quarterback Jeremiah Masoli likely won’t be ready for the start of the season, and will not suit up in exhibition games.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day was Panthers broadcaster Randy Moller. Friday’s was Taylor Shire!
- If you missed the show you can catch it on our YouTube channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
- Have a great long weekend and we’ll see you Tuesday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, WQEE and Streaming.
Jeremiah Masoli should sue Garrett Marino, Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club and the CFL. His injury devastating to his professional career.
