MONDAY COMMENTARY – TRAP GAME?
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
A new week, and lots of exciting new stories.
It was bittersweet watching the Quebec Remparts parade around the ice with the Memorial Cup aloft in Kamloops Sunday night. No doubt the best team won, as the Quebec reps manhandled the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-0 to claim the national junior hockey crown.
In truth, it really wasn’t much of a game. You had to know that Remparts coach Patrick Roy would have a great goalie and his tender shut the door in the biggest game of the year.
And bittersweet because once that trophy’s handed out, it’s a sure sign that hockey is slowly closing the book on another season. But what a season it was! (Remember Connor Bedard?)
Speaking of the Next One, he’s racking up the airmiles as of late. Bedard was in Kamloops on the weekend, cleaning up at the CHL Awards as MVP, Top Prospect and Top Scorer. He’s the first ever to do that.
Now tonight, the NHL is trumpeting the fact Bedard and other top prospects will be at Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final in Vegas as part of an Upper Deck hockey card event with fans. I’m starting to get pangs that maybe I should’ve gone.
And what will happen tonight at the Fortress? The Golden Knights won handily 6-2 in the series opener on Saturday night however the Florida Panthers are 3-0 in Game 2s in these Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It should be a dandy.
And this long, great sports week will close with the Saskatchewan Roughriders visiting Chris Jones and the Edmonton Elks Sunday night at Commonwealth Stadium.
It’s the capper to Week 1 of the CFL season and our official betting partner Bet Regal has the Riders listed as 2-point favourites.
I smell a trap game.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

A trap game? For who?
🤔 😂
I am very hopefu optimistic. I believe with Trevor Harris being in the room we finally have a masculine swinging $#$* that is going to put the inmates in line. The Substitute Teacher/Head Coach mentality of “c’mon guys” will not cut it this year. This regime is on a 6 week countdown from day 1. After that they can breathe until Labor Day and have a reprieve, but make no mistake. This is a week to week basis now for all the Adminstration. It really all depends on who is staying or going. If the football ops does well it… Read more »
You can’t take the CFL seriously when it’s very own commissioner calls it a funny league.
