TUESDAY COMMENTARY – STOP THE BLEEDING

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Hockey is back for another night. But will it be the last?

The Florida Panthers visit the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final and Vegas can finish it off with a win.

Just about everyone figures this series will end tonight with the Panthers admitting to being pretty banged up and the Knights smelling blood in the water.

Do the Comeback Cats have another one left in them?

Must-see TV for sure.

Next the great: One day you’ll believe me; success always starts at the top.

With the Denver Nuggets winning the NBA title Monday night, their owner Stan Kroenke now has championships in the NHL, NFL, NLL and now NBA in the last 4 ½ years alone!

I’d love to know his secret.

Just look what’s happened in the CFL with new leaders Victor Cui and Amar Doman in Edmonton and BC respectively. Crowds of over 30- and 40-thousand in stadiums that had been left for dead!

Do we even need to mention what Wade Miller has done in Winnipeg, wrestling away the title of “CFL’s Marquee Franchise” with no plans of giving it back?

In other markets, attendance is declining and people wonder why.

And lastly, the ugly
: The sports media business is literally mourning the loss of 20 reporters at the website The Athletic and 74 more at the L.A. Times.

Overall I find it ironic that coaches and players lose their jobs all the time and the media snickers yet when the axe hits our industry, everyone’s deeply offended.

The bigger discussion is how mind-bogglingly bleak the sports media picture is in Canada. It’s not great in the U.S., but our country has been completely obliterated. The empty press box at Commonwealth Stadium the other night underscored it for a lot of people.

Where are people getting their sports news these days? Because they’re getting it from somewhere.

Figure that out, and maybe you can stop the bleeding.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio & YouTube)

It started in 2007 with the creation of this blog..that essentially ended any and all affiliation to the leader post. That was on the local level. I won’t even get started, but will say the leader post was borderline criminal what they were writing. This extends to other media outlets. When they went away from a circulation model for revenue to an advertising one. That was the end. Now they cow tow to these crap businesses versus tell the truth. Espn is now Disney and you can’t find a more “woke” organization. The viewers voted and they are done. The… Read more »

Winnipeg Jets ownership need to take a very serious look at hiring Patrick Roy as their team Gm, Head coach. That NHL franchise going nowhere with it’s current regime.

Enough with the woke crap. Shareholder value means you chop jobs. It has been a bloodbath for sports media and it extends to local news. Zero interest in viewer/reader buy in. Bottom line means online “scoops” – true or not – make the news. Nobody there to actually follow up a story. Hughes and Jones poisoning minds? You gotta be kidding or something is seriously wrong.
