FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: FAIRHOLM & BARKER
Fridays are reserved for football on The RP Show and we welcomed some big CFL names to Century Downs Racetrack & Casino on Episode #1,049 on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, YouTube Live and Podcast! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked the show off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Week 8 opens with Friday Night Football, featuring Hamilton at Ottawa and the return of Bo Levi Mitchell to the Ticats offense, 2) Other Week 8 games include Touchdown Atlantic (Riders vs Argos), BC at Edmonton and Calgary at Montreal, 3) NFL camps are underway but are already marred by injuries to Joe Burrow and Jalen Ramsey, 4) The Blue Jays open a weekend home series with the L.A. Angels Friday night, 5) The Ottawa Senators sign forward Vladimir Tarasenko to a 1-year/$5M deal, and 6) Weekend sports lookahead.
- Pro Bowl NFL QB Gus Frerotte was scheduled to appear in Hour 1 however a travel snafu pushed his appearance to Monday. The hosts carried the ball for the rest of Hour 1.
- The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: How concerned should the Bengals be with the calf injury to Joe Burrow – Very Concerned, Not Concerned or Undecided? At press time, Very Concerned was leading by a large margin.
- In Hour 2 were were joined by 2-time Grey Cup champion Jeff Fairholm at Century Downs. The slotback previewed Touchdown Atlantic and examined the 3-3 Roughriders and 5-0 Argos. He also discussed winning Grey Cups with the 1989 Roughriders and 1996 Argonauts. The guys then delved deeply into pro football training camp injuries and Fairholm theorized that it’s due to the the non-contact practices.
- CFL On TSN analyst and 5-time Grey Cup champion Jim Barker joined the show next and wanted to discuss the injury issue. He said the lack of playing time for vets in training camp and preseason is all due to the coaches, who know their season is over if their quarterbacks get injured. Barker then examined the return of Bo Levi Mitchell, and feels Riders Offensive Coordinator Kelly Jeffrey needs to do a better job of playcalling for Mason Fine.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day was Ryan Straschnitski. Friday’s was Jeff Fairholm!
