TUESDAY COMMENTARY: THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!:

First the good: It was a good performance by Mason Fine and the Roughriders on Sunday night at Mosaic Stadium to close out Week 9 in the CFL.

The embattled starter did just enough to eak out a 26-24 win over Ottawa, and snap a 3-game losing streak.

Now at 4-4, the Riders are still in the fight and proved they can beat a quality opponent without top pivot Trevor Harris.

Next up, at Montreal on Friday.

Next the great: It’s the Toronto Blue Jays! Their season’s had more ups and downs than a toilet seat but they downed the Guardians 3-1 in Cleveland on Monday for their fourth straight win.

That puts them seven games off the division lead and three up for the final wildcard spot!

The pundits say the second half schedule is far easier than the first and the Jays are showing that, but also playing as a team and are keeping the serious injury bug at bay for the most part.

Right now things look great.

And finally, the ugly: Really, I can’t spy anything in the sports world that fits this bill and that’s real good news.

But watching videos of what went on in and around Buffalo Days over the weekend turned my stomach.

Fights on the midway have been around as long as corndogs but the videos I was shown of teens being assaulted near the grounds and senseless vandalism turned my stomach.

Kids should be able to attend the fair without the fear of being attacked on or anywhere near the grounds.

Where are we going.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Where are we going? – in the early 90s I watched a former Regina Pat (heavyweight) get picked on by what at that time would be considered a Glencairn Kung Fu Man. He picked, picked, picked, and finally when backed up the Regina Pat in close quarters nearly beat this Loser within an inch of his life. Like that; the bully never did a thing after, and as social media was invented I checked to see what happened to him. – turns out at age 50 he’s basically a Loser, commenting on the issues of the day, and living a… Read more »

I remember my grade 6 teacher, an old farmer/horse guy that drove into town each day. At that point, he hadn’t had enough but you could see it coming. After watching the local twits do what twits do, he told us that if we wanted to never worry about being unemployed, the boys should be cops and the girls therapists. Dealing with idiots is never going to go out of style, he said. He also said that the government was greedy and would take any ‘extra’ money you earned and give it to those who were envious of your success… Read more »

Quick point – the political leanings of the staff have never changed. The first scumbag Tommy Douglas hired was his little buddy Clarence Fines – of Fines Drive fame. – this guy set up all the Crown Corps from Insurance to Bus Company to Shoe Factory – and guess what….like all great Socialists he retired to Florida. The Teachers Union if not for the Healthcare Unions make the Gambinos and Chicago Outfit look like child’s play. Now what do Teachers want? – smaller classroom sizes….yet back in the day a Nun could run a room of 40 kids. They might… Read more »

just a few comments on the Riders game Sunday and the win. A couple of things here, both about the QB play. Firstly, the Dolegala dual of mistakes nearly cost the Riders. Now both of these are not all on him, one is totally on him. The fumble he made when trying to get a first down on a short run is inexcusable. He needs to wrap up that football. Not getting a first down is one thing but not securing the football is awful football on his part. Then there is the push by the Rider Oline on that… Read more »
