WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – I LIKE IT, I LOVE IT

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

Wednesdays are for random thoughts in this commentary. So here we go …

#1 – It got a little overshadowed on Tuesday but this news deserves big pub. Toronto Maple Leafs great Bobby Baun passed away at age 86. You may or may not remember he scored an OT goal in the 1964 Stanley Cup Final against Detroit on a broken leg.

I first learned of that in elementary school and can still remember the cartoon of Baun on his teammates shoulders with a cast on his leg. Methinks we need to get back to that curriculum.

And between Baun and Todd Strueby, does Lanigan, Sask hold the record for most NHL’ers produced per capita?

#2 – The biggest news across the land was the CFL’s Edmonton Elks parting ways with President Victor Cui after only 1 ½ years on the job.

My thoughts are known. Victor didn’t sign Jones to his 4-year deal, nor give him the keys to the castle.

I’m certain he’s relieved.

#3 – It’s one of the biggest interviews of my career today. Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska will join us live down at Century Downs Casino for the RP Show on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio and YouTube Live.

There’s no bigger figure in Calgary sports than the head coach of the Flames.

The team asked why I hadn’t asked for their people far earlier but to be honest, I wasn’t sure if this venture in this city would all work out.

I’m officially happy to report that it has!

And #4 – And lastly, apparently Country Thunder Alberta hits this weekend. I know because our show inbox is jammed with invitations to attend. The headliners include Tim McGraw & Keith Urban.

How do we tell them … they’re about 30 years too late?

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)

Unfortunately no we will not be going back to that curriculum. Imagine telling a 6 year old – this is the boys line, this is the girls line, and this is our special people’s line. The teaching profession has now become activism. What parents must do is understand early childhood literacy. This is why the public library system is so incredibly important. With the children/adult programming there is something for everyone, and you must read to your children the day they drop out of the womb. Everyone should be reading or listening to audio books, but they don’t. They go… Read more »

This clown with his big mouth now on/over the line of defamation of character by personally naming a individual outright.

Huska is awesome. I sure hope the Flames organization feels the same way about you having members in your show if you ever offer honest criticism of the team. It’s embarrassing how pathetic Vancouver Canucks are with the the local shows. They won’t allow anyone on Price and Sekaras, Donnie and Dhawli, Canucks Army and others. I hope you can be honest and not have to bend over for the team. Watching Toronto media cover the Jays has become nauseating.

Good commentary Rod.

Without doing any research or calculations, I would think Viking Alberta would beat Lanigan Saskatchewan for NHL players per capita (for communities with more than one NHL player).

This would be a very interesting project though.
