COMMENTARY – BIDING TIME
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It was only preseason but ESPN brought out all the bells and whistles for a Monday Night Football clash between the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens at FedEx Field.
And the game proved worthy of the hype! The Commanders – under new ownership and before a soldout house – won the game 29-28 on a 49-yard field goal and snapped the Ravens’ NFL record 24-game preseason win streak.
I hung in till the very end, and it’s always good to be rewarded when you do that.
Next the great: Shortstop Bo Bichette returned to the Blue Jays lineup on the weekend and immediately sparked the Blue Jays to a series win at Cincinnati.
However as we sit here today, the Jays are out of the playoff picture; a full game back of Seattle for the final wildcard playoff spot.
It’s no secret that I’m not the biggest baseball guy but this season – and for the past few – I’ve been glued to every game and if that’s not possible, at least checking the box score.
Really all you need is a chance, and Toronto has the team to do it.
And that’s great.
And finally, the ugly: I saw a Flames blogger opine here in Calgary that this has been the longest off-season ever.
Agreed! And when your team misses the playoffs like Calgary did, it’s even more excruciating. Just think – their off-season was two months longer than Florida and Vegas!
And there’s still a wait to go.
It’s not ugly but it’s definitely disappointing that after two years of building great relationships in Cowtown, culminating with hosting events with Flames alumni and having Flames personnel on the RP Show, it’s going to be time to leave at the end of the week.
But we’ll be back. And maybe the Flames will be a contender by then.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
Again I need to comment on the poor TSN coverage of the CFL games. Does anyone else but me think their in booth interviews that go on and on and on for no reason are a total waste of the viewers time!!!!!!!!Having these ex-players in the booth and even give them 1 minute of time is a complete joke. No one wants to hear these discussions, but if they need them do it at half time. Then there was the sideline interview with the Save ON Foods President. Give me a friggin break!!! Was that necessary. It looked like a… Read more »
…..I thought Jeff Garcia was so hammered he was going to “Joe Nameth” the guy interviewing him in the booth. I also am shocked he QB’d Calgary 25 short years ago. See this is the problem with a CFL Mt. Rushmore. – Garcia was only in the CFL for 5 short years, but holy God was he on a completely next level. He is the ONE guy that chased Doug Flutie off a team. Flutie had an injury, Garcia was on his heels, they went with Garcia. Who was behind Garcia? – Henry Burris. I just want to make a… Read more »
