It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Football has a deathgrip on everyone’s attention at the moment and it’ll be that way for awhile.

What’s good? Well for starters our good friend and former Rider linebacker Sam Eguavoen was elevated from the NY Jets practice roster for Monday Night Football and the Gotham Green pulled off a bit of miracle, beating the Buffalo Bills 22-16.

When you’re on a pro roster and your team wins, it’s “Steak & Eggs”.

Next the great: Start your engines! The homestretch of the Canadian Football League season officially starts this week and almost nothing has been decided other than Winnipeg and Toronto have clinched playoff berths.

Your friendly neighbourhood Saskatchewan Roughriders are 6-6 and kickoff the final third of the season at home Friday night against the Edmonton Elks.

Their final six looks like this: home to Edmonton, at Ottawa, at BC, home to Hamilton, at Calgary and home to Toronto.

I could see them going 3-3 and nine wins should be enough to get them into the postseason.

And finally, the ugly: I was really coming around on Aaron Rodgers. His penchant for being a diva the past couple off-seasons had turned me off but his revival in New York, his talk of manifestations, and his no-nonsense approach as portrayed in the HBO “Hard Knocks” series this summer really turned me into a fan.

The Jets really did it right last night, having Rodgers carry the Stars & Stripes onto the field at MetLife Stadium on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. It was as good as it gets.

Then four snaps into his Jets debut he crumpled onto the turf with what we’re hearing is an Achilles tendon injury; the severity of which we’ll learn sometime today. Coach Robert Saleh said after the game it’s “not good”.

In football terms, it doesn’t get much uglier than that.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

If the Roughriders can win on Friday they should be able to get to 9-9 and they can upset in the first round. Now if they lose – that would be the equivalent of that submarine where the I used a 1990s video game console as the navigation ship. It will implode and race to the bottom of the ocean. Regarding Aaron Rodgers – nothing more than a bag of hot air. I listen to him on Bill Maher, Joe Rogan, and Pat McAfee. He is a guy that when you have a $100M in the bank – it’s that… Read more »
