FRIDAY COMMENTARY: TIS THE SEASON
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
We take you into the weekend with a coupla three thoughts …
#1 – Friday night’s CFL game at Mosaic Stadium should have a playoff feel to it. It’s as close to a playoff game as you’re going to get.
A Rider win over Edmonton will eliminate the Elks chance of finishing third and pretty much clinch a playoff spot for the Riders. However an Edmonton win throws everything into chaos heading down the stretch.
They’re predicting a tight one. Sask is favoured by three points at Bet Regal and I’ll take the bet.
#2 – Let’s pause for a moment and admire the excellence of the Toronto Argonauts.
And the dominance.
A Toronto win at Montreal tonight would clinch the Argos the East Division crown but would also mark the franchise’s first-ever 11-1 start.
They’re averaging 35 points scored per game and haven’t allowed a sack in five games.
Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie – at a career record of 30-13 – has the fifth highest winning percentage in CFL history.
And some nincompoops thought he wasn’t ready to be a head coach in the CFL. If you recall, I knew.
And #3 – I’ll be spending the weekend in the 83-hundred seat Hertz Arena near Naples, FL and the NHL Southeast Showcase. It’s the annual rookie tournament for the Panthers, Lightning, Predators and Hurricanes.
As I’ve often told you, there’s always a local connection to events like this and I was pretty excited to watch White City, SK’s Jaydon Dureau for the Tampa Bay Lightning. I’ve known him since he was about 10.
But a family member shot me a text and said Jaydon’s had a lower leg injury this fall and his participation in the tourney is 50/50.
Either way, we’ll be there no matter what.
Tis the season.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Speaking of Toronto Argonauts Head Coach Ryan Dinwiddie, he once was a Saskatchewan Roughrider 2010/2011, sadly his experience with the Roughriders made him retire from football as a player. Ryan Dinwiddie was the quarterback of note for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2007 Grey Cup where he was inserted as the team qb starter who may have won it all if it weren’t for a single man named James Johnson and his three interceptions on behalf of the Riders. In the end the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football team never gave Dinwiddie a chance as is their habit of kicking very… Read more »
