HALLOWE’EN COMMENTARY: DON’T PLAY
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: If you check the calendar, it’s October 31 so … Happy Hallowe’en! Used to be this is the one night of the year the streets would be packed with ghosts and goblins.
Now, it seems to be a weeklong event which I find quite fun! As far back as the weekend, I enjoyed roaming around the Florida Panthers game and posting photos of the costumes.
Somebody huffed, “When did Hallowe’en become a season?”
I don’t know, but the world needs more fun and this provides it.
Next the great: It is, quite frankly, the CFL Playoffs.
I think it’s great that the league has moved the playoff games to Saturdays and that includes this weekend’s Division Semifinals featuring Hamilton at Montreal in the East and Calgary at BC in the West.
But I’ve totally gotta ask – will I die waiting for people to admit they were wrong about Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo, who guided his team to 11 wins this year and had his second-best season ever?
Asking for a friend.
And finally, the ugly: Going off the board with this one.
Outside of sports anyway.
Star of the TV sitcom Friends, Matthew Perry, died at age 54 on the weekend as he drowned in the hottub of his Pacific Palisades home.
The circumstances around his death were closely-guarded but Matthew’s ex-fiance Molly Hurwitz let the world know via Instagram that alcohol was involved. A lifelong battle with the bottle reached its ultimate conclusion.
The bottle won.
Those of us in the Program often discuss how lucky we are to find success in Recovery and enjoy a great life while others can’t seem to get the hang of it and suffer till their last day.
People like to make it real complicated but when it comes to the battle with the bottle, I boil it down to one simple thing:
Don’t play.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
I boil it down to finding out not what’s wrong with me/ppl, but ask – what happened to you?
Heal trauma. Rewire, rebuild. Reprogram.
And to the virtue signal ppl that have no clue and think it’s a swell idea to give “good” dope and pay a nurse to watch and revive….get out of here with that jive.
Don’t play is right. If people do then jails, institution and death are where it goes.
Thank you Mathew perry for keeping me and a bunch of people sober today
Yes Saturday CFL playoff games are great. Back in the day (1960s) both the Grey Cup parade and game were on Saturday, Except for 1962 when the game was played on Saturday and Sunday and known as ” The Fog Bowl” In fact The Riders won their first cup on a cold Saturday night of November 26 1966. I guess what is old is new again!
