COMMENTARY: HURRICANE CONNOR HITS FLORIDA
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts headed into the weekend …
#1 – The unthinkable happened for the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. They lost 3-2 to San Jose – the worst team in the league – for their fourth straight loss, and it actually drew the Sharks even with them in the standings.
So the Edmonton Oilers are officially the worst team in the NHL.
Once the team comes out of the shock that this has actually happened, they’ll realize their problems are 100% mental.
However it’s doubtful that coach Jay Woodcroft is capable of leading them out of this and to be honest, I have no idea who is.
#2 – Hurricane Connor hit Tampa Bay last night. Bedard’s Blackhawks blitzed the Lightning 5-3 at Amelie Arena and The Next One had two goals and two assists on the way to being named the #1 star. He also became the youngest player in Blackhawks history to net a multi-goal game.
To the critics – keep doubting him! That’s his oxygen.
#3 – On the eve of the CFL Conference Finals, the penchant is to go down the rabbit hole of who will be the next head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
But for me, this week, the chase has lost its lustre.
Why? Because somebody’s lying. In fact it feels like everybody’s lying and that makes it real hard to pass along remotely accurate info.
The names we’ve heard are: Scott Milanovich, Corey Mace, Henry Burris, Marc Trestman, Buck Pierce, Paul LaPolice and now even June Jones.
Is one of those names the next coach in Saskatchewan?
I’ll wait for the news conference and otherwise turn my attention to the games.
#4 – Which brings us to Saturday’s Final Four. I’ll take the Argos to beat Montreal and BC to topple Winnipeg.
May the best teams win.

Some critics are doubting Bedard? I haven’t seen one story about that.
Until last night some were saying he shouldn’t win the Calder.
With Bedard it’s going to take him until just past Christmas to see the lay of the land, and it’ll take a little more time to figure out faceoffs. Past that – it was only a matter of time before he broke it wide open which he did last night. He needs to shoot first, and pass second. – but last night that’s basically a snippet of what’s coming down the train tracks. I have an NHL package and watch all the games. The only thing other “rookies” have in common is they have 2 arms, 2 legs, and a… Read more »
Your NFL game of the week options are missing the obvious, CJ Stroud is showing the league who should have been taken 1st overall. The Texans @ Joe Burrow and Cincy is the game of the week.
Actually it’s Browns/Steelers! 😅
