SUPER BOWL LVIIII NOTEBOOK: CHIEFS REPEAT!
- LAS VEGAS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Mahomes threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman with 3 seconds left in overtime and the Chiefs rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 on Sunday in the second overtime game in Super Bowl history, becoming the first repeat champs in 19 years and ninth overall. With pop star Taylor Swift watching boyfriend Kelce from a suite, the Chiefs captured their third Super Bowl title in five years and firmly established themselves as a dynasty.
- LAS VEGAS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes shared the name of the play Kansas City used for the winning TD in overtime. “It’s just called Corn Dog. And we brought it back at the right time. … Another Andy Reid special.” The Chiefs moved into rarefied air with their third Super Bowl championship in five years and fourth overall. That tied them with the Packers and Giants for fifth on the NFL’s all-time leaderboard.
- LAS VEGAS (AP) — A frustrated Travis Kelce bumped Andy Reid on the sideline, knocking the 65-year-old Kansas City Chiefs coach a few steps back after teammate Isiah Pacheco fumbled inside the red zone during the second quarter of the Super Bowl. Kelce ran over to Reid and screamed at him after the fumble. CBS reported that Kelce was angry that he wasn’t on the field for the play and yelled at Reid to keep him in the game. The Chiefs gained just 16 yards on their first two possessions. They had a chance to score after a deep pass from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman, but Pacheco fumbled on the next play.
- LAS VEGAS (AP) — Taylor Swift strolled into Allegiant Stadium for the Super Bowl surrounded by celebrity friends. She was seen cuddling with Blake Lively during Post Malone’s performance of “America the Beautiful” and won what appeared to be a beer chugging contest, slamming her cup down to an appreciate roar from the fans. The pop superstar had flown halfway around the world to see her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and the rest of his team play the San Francisco 49ers in the big game. But the defending Super Bowl champions struggled through a sloppy first half and trailed 10-3 at the break.

The game winning TD was exciting given that it was overtime, but on the whole this was not the most exciting Super Bowl ever.
I was impressed by the range of the FG kickers, interesting stat flashed that in all SBs prior to yesterday there were only 7 50+ yard FGs, but there were 3 in yesterday’s game. Crazy to think that for some kickers, anything under 50 is practically automatic barring heavy wind.
Outside of Ouellette and Thurman the Saskatchewan Roughriders haven’t really made a dent in the CFL free agency market. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers come out on top for resigning and retaining their valuable player assets.
Oddsmakers taking bets on whether travis kelce will be charged with assault on KCC Head Coach Andy Reid.
