A coupla three or more thoughts headed into the weekend:

#1 – Call it the Dog Days of Winter, the February swoon or what have you, but there will be some panicking hockey fans given the recent fate of some teams.

The Vancouver Canucks lost their fourth in a row Thursday night – 5-2 to Seattle – and now their grip on 1st place overall is in jeopardy. Meanwhile the Golden Knights were smoked 7-3 by Toronto in Vegas, representing their fourth straight home loss.

How soon before fans’ knees start knocking? In the Knights’ case, at least they fell to the suddenly-contending Leafs, which brings us to …

#2 – Don’t look now but the Leafs have won six in a row and Auston Matthews may be leading the MVP conversation. Down in New York, the Rangers have won a whopping nine in a row while here in Florida, the Panthers saw their 11-game road win streak get snapped with a 1-0 loss at Carolina last night.

If this wasn’t the “Year of the Fired Coach” in the NHL, they’d be calling it the “Year of the Streak.”

#3 – It seems the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts are in a heap of trouble. TSN investigative reporter Rick Westhead has uncovered a story that a female strength coach was fired by the Argos, seemingly after she came forward about repeated sexual harassment by star quarterback Chad Kelly.

In this case, you can’t say bad publicity is better than none. And I’m not sure if “innocent till proven guilty” is still a thing?

And finally #4 – I found it interesting last night that the Carolina Hurricanes celebrated their Pride game against Florida.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m as pro-Pride as the next guy – but it got me to-thinking about the NFL and our recent dealings with them, including Super Bowl.

The NFL is, by far, the most-inclusive league I’ve ever dealt with in my decades-long career. Anything I’ve asked for, I’ve gotten from them, and they are the most popular league on the continent.

And I ask this merely out of simple curiosity with no agenda: Do you remember the NFL or its teams having Pride games? Or many other themed nights?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

With regard to Chad Kelly. Of course it would be TSN and of course it would be Rick Westhead that would need to be the one to “investigate”. If anyone knows anything about Human Rights Commisions. They are the new catch all for any b.s the Labor Boards won’t look into. A contract doesn’t get renewed. A staff member is terminated “without cause.” – what is the option for an angry agrieved person? Well….go to Human Rights. It might take 7 years to finalize but damage is done as this guys reputation. Of course TSN just has to investigate this… Read more »

Beauty:) When I say things like I’m as pro-pride as the next guy it reminds me when I used to say, “hey I got lots of (insert group) friends” Honestly what this is all about it reminds me of post 9-11. You could get a group of Middle Eastern Muslims together minding their own business and then some covert FBI/CIA agent infiltrates. It’s the constant “hey why don’t we….” and the gentle gaslighting to actually get these people do do something they otherwise never even thought of. “Pride” and “Pro-Nouns” is normalizing to children, teens, young adults, “A” sexual types,… Read more »
