Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

It’s Tuesday and time for another edition of The Good, The Great & The Ugly!
First the good: It’s the two best words in sports – Game Seven.
And it goes down at the EPA in Humboldt tonight as the Broncos host the Weyburn Red Wings in the final game of Round 1 of the SJHL Playoffs.
Undoubtedly Broncos coach Scott Barney didn’t expect to be in this situation but full marks to the scrappy Red Wings, and it’s great to have hockey alive in Weyburn again!
Now we await tonight’s winner.
Next the great: Speaking of coaches, I got a real nice Easter note from a former Roughriders coach who says he enjoys this commentary everyday. It was nice to hear from him and we spent a great deal of time together back in the day.
He’s won several championships and is still coaching to this day. It’s easy to see why …
He’s an encourager, a motivator, and his message proved just that. Here’s a tip: people don’t generally go out of their way to say nice things, especially these days.
I’m thankful to have people like that in my life, and that’s just great!
And finally, the ugly: Monday’s 6-4 loss in Toronto was the seventh for the Florida Panthers in their last nine games.
They’re still only two points behind first-place Boston but if that game was a playoff preview against the Leafs, it’s not a good sign.
Not sure what the Panthers’ record is since the trade deadline but it’s not favourable and coach Paul Maurice is still trying to find the perfect mix with newcomers Vladimir Tarasenko and Kyle Okposo. Heart and soul guys Ryan Lomberg and Nick Cousins are the odd man out on a rotating basis and this clearly isn’t the team it was before the deadline.
Maurice said it himself last week; they’re running out of time.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
