Thursday Commentary: Numbers Not Pictures
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
More random thoughts today because there’s just so much going on and we love them so much!
#1 – Is there a team which puts its fans through more ups and downs than the Edmonton Oilers? Non-believers were tuning out last night after the Oil went down 2-0 in the opening five minutes against Dallas in a near must-win game.
But lo and behold, they stuck with starting goalie Stuart Skinner, and scored five unanswered goals to win 5-2 and tie up the Western Conference Final at 2-2.
Some consistency would be nice, but as they say in golf: numbers not pictures.
#2 – The Panthers visit New York tonight in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final which is also tied 2-2.
I’ve got the Rangers to take this one.
#3 – Casually following the CFL these days and former NFL and Montreal Alouettes bad boy Johnny Manziel is making headlines for saying on a podcast that he was only “used” by the CFL for clicks and eyeballs during his time up here.
In the Netflix documentary on his life, Johnny Football emphasized that he “HATES” the NCAA for making multi-millions on his name while he faced sanctions for trying to make just a little.
Johnny – if you don’t get over those resentments, you’re going to be sick for the rest of your life.
Y’er welcome.
#4 – It’s gonna be great to get up to Saskatoon tonight as we try to set an attendance record in the CEBL as the Rattlers entertain the Vancouver Bandits at SaskTel Centre. 12,500 should do it.
A Thursday night tip-off won’t necessarily help with attracting the out-of-towners but let me ask you this – what else have you got to do?
I’m making the trip from Moose Jaw. If you’re coming, come on up and say hi!
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
The Edmonton Oilers are a very good hockey team. Cream does rise to the top and what happens is a separation and eventual pull away. The Goalie has allowed 10 goals on the first shot of the game this season, so he’s obviously not mentally ready and they need to use every ounce of gun powder to overcome that. Darnell Nurse – just another to big to fail so they need to work around him. When you rely on analytics and leave Cory Perry out for 5 games that will be the decider. Hope they do it, won’t be surprised… Read more »
#3 None of my business, but nothing new with a guy like him. He hates football and always has. He’s the reason the song Glory Days was invented and 98% of guys in Regina apply to it, and because his/their “identity” is all about that he/they hates themselves. Now, I just read that article – the old saying of you are known by the company you keep. If he’s so jazzed about being used by the CFL – then he needs to take a hard look at going on Bert Kreischer’s podcast. Bert Kreischer isn’t gonna make it. – he’s… Read more »
On this Sask Rattlers sellout thing, I’m looking at the ticketmaster website and to my eyes it looks like the team will be lucky to crack 3,000 fans tonight?! They’ll need the biggest walkup crowd in Canadian basketball since MJ and the Bulls appeared at Skydome back in the 90s if there’s any hope of selling out the SaskTel Centre. Not that the Rattlers don’t deserve it, they are a great team. I just don’t see it happening.
….then go back to 2006 and Vote NDP or even better head back to 1993 and be the guy in the meeting telling Riders President “we’re to small to host Grey Cups”
Saskatchewan is a big land for big men and big thinkers – that’s until guys like you want to take what we have or try to step on dreams.
There will be 8000 fans at that CEBL game.
And here’s the news. If people have not caught onto what this league is and will become….stay at home and eat doritos or watch internet porn.
Y’er Welcome
Hey Obama, just to be clear, I’m in Winnipeg, the home of the top drawing CEBL team of them all. I was in the crowd at the Sea Bears home opener last Friday with over 9,000 in the crowd.
Attendance in Saskatoon last night according to the CEBL website: 1,200.
The Rattlers are doing great (3-0 start to the season) but it looks like they could use a little more fan support.
