CFL
- The Ottawa Redblacks erased a 17-12 halftime deficit, and outscored the visiting B-C Lions 22-10 in the second half on Saturday to post a 34-27 CFL victory and remain unbeaten at home. The Redblacks, who improved to 7-2-and-1, moved to within three points of the first-place Montreal Alouettes in the East. The Lions, who have lost five straight after starting the season 5-and-1, are now tied for second in the West with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
- The Edmonton Elks will be looking to win their fourth straight game tonight, but they’ll have to do it on the road, against the CFL’s hottest team. The league-leading Montreal Alouettes, with nine wins in 10 games, will be looking to stop the Elks’ streak in the final game of the Week 12 schedule. Last night, the BC Lions lost their fifth straight game, dropping a 34-27 decision to the red-hot Redblacks in Ottawa.

PANTHERS 31 BILLS 26
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Quarterback Bryce Young displayed having a good grasp of the Panthers’ new offensive playbook by capping a short and successful preseason debut with an opening-drive touchdown in Carolina’s 31-26 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.
PACKERS 30, RAVENS 7
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Arron Mosby got a strip-sack that resulted in a touchdown and intercepted a pass on consecutive series to help Green Bay beat Baltimore as both teams closed the preseason by resting nearly all of their starters.
TEXANS 17, RAMS 15
HOUSTON (AP) — Tim Boyle threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns to lead Houston to a win over Los Angeles. The Texans led 10-9 when Boyle threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Johnson III on the second play of the fourth quarter to make it 17-9. Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud and Rams QB Matthew Stafford weren’t even in uniform for this one as most starters from both teams sat out.
LIONS 24, STEELERS 17
DETROIT (AP) — Russell Wilson and Justin Fields led touchdown drives for Pittsburgh, who lost to Detroit. Jermar Jefferson rushed for two touchdowns for the Lions, including a go-ahead, 7-yard run in the fourth quarter. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t named Wilson the starting quarterback, but has said repeatedly that the veteran is in the “pole position” for the job.
VIKINGS 26, EAGLES 3
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Minnesota’s Jaren Hall threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against Philadelphia’s reserves, and the Vikings beat the Eagles. Neither team played its starting quarterback. Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts didn’t get a single snap in the preseason for the second straight year. The Vikings kept Sam Darnold out of action.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
- DUBLIN, IRELAND (AP) – Aidan Birr made a 44-yard field goal as time expired and Georgia Tech upset No. 10 Florida State 24-21 in the first major college football game of the season. Coming off an undefeated regular season, but with a remade roster, the Seminoles tied the game at 21 with 6:33 left in the fourth quarter on a 15-play touchdown drive that included two fourth-down conversions by DJ Uiagalelei. Florida State never touched the ball again, and Birr came on with 5 seconds left on the clock to drill the winner.
- BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Deion Sanders is adamant about keeping negativity out of his life and his football program at Colorado. He even had a newspaper columnist barred from asking questions at football-related events over what he deemed as pessimistic coverage. Sanders spent his summer integrating a new offensive line and two new coordinators — and squabbling with the media. As he prepared for the Buffaloes’ season opener against FCS powerhouse North Dakota State, the second-year Colorado coach was asked Saturday if he ever felt persecuted “by outside noise.” He said, “This is a way of life for me.”
MLB
The Toronto Blue Jays will send right-hander Kevin Gausman to the mound today looking for a four-game sweep over the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The Jays beat the Angels 3-1 yesterday thanks, in part, to pitcher Bowden Francis’s one-hitter, and Vladimir Guerrero Junior’s two RBIs and 27th home run of the season. Left-hander Tyler Anderson will pitch the series’ finale for the Angels.
