It’s Tuesday and you know what that means! It’s time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly ..

First the good: Write it down – Monday, August 26/2024. That’s the day Dallas Cowboys Owner & GM Jerry Jones caved in.

After a training camp holdout, Dallas #1 receiver CeeDee Lamb got the bag on Monday; a four-year deal worth $136-million. It’s everything the Oklahoma product wanted and makes him the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL. It also includes a $38-million signing bonus. What’s the first thing you’d buy with that?

I’d have to think about it, and we’ll discuss it today on the RP Show.

Next, the great: It didn’t dawn on me till the weekend why I feel spring is the best time of year in sports.

It’s simple! All that really matters are the hockey playoffs at that time. It’s easy to keep track of and the games finally mean something.

As I get ready to return home to Florida on Sunday, I’m thinking of all the things to keep on top of right now: football at all levels (NFL, CFL, college & high school), the baseball pennant races, the start of hockey season, and God knows what else.

But you know what? It’s great. Especially for a guy in my business.

And lastly, the ugly: I’m following with interest this feud between Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders and one member of the local media who Prime won’t allow into his news conferences due to negative coverage of his program.

People are acting like this is the first-ever feud between a player and coach!

My gosh – those of us who’ve been around this perilous trade for awhile can name dozens of scrapes like this. Shoot, every single market used to have standoffs no different than this. In fact most were far worse.

Is it possible for me to be on both sides of the spat? I like Deion and feel he can run a program how he wishes. Also, I feel the media has the right to say whatever they want too.

There used to be a saying in sports: Don’t get into a fight with the media because they always have the last word.

I’m wondering if that’s still a thing.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Cee Dee Lamb, If anyone watches Vlad TV – here’s the prediction. He’ll be absolutely stone broke within 10 years – baby mamas, family members, keepin’ it real in the ‘hood. He’ll be a featured guest and will rely on the 4 figures Vlad pays these guys to come in and talk. With that stated. If you don’t know who Boozie Badazz is……that young man needs to be listened to and he needs to be taught in schools. Wisdom. Deion Sanders 100% behind Prime. – the fact he even decided to grace the state of Colorado with his presence should… Read more »

You know Rod that this whole going home to Florida thing you have going is kind of lame. We all know you have moved to your dreamland. You don’t have to keep telling us. I actually do not care for Florida, especially the politics, but to each his own.

The guy in Colorado isn’t banned. He just won’t be allowed to ask questions at press conferences. Making that a public policy & announcing it might be dumb but there are tons of coaches/GM’s/players that won’t take questions from some media members and just don’t make it a public policy. I would argue it gives some bad reporters a megaphone to be banned and helps them more than it hurts them. This reporter wrote some pretty over the top stuff that would make even a moron like Steve Simmons seem reasonable. Reporters do get the last word in theory but… Read more »
