A coupla three or so thoughts entering the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend …

#1 – There were no surprises in the NFL’s Turkey Day tripleheader. The Lions got past the Bears – although we’ll be discussing the coaching gaffe by Chicago at the end of the game on today’s RP Show – the Cowboys smoked the Giants and the Packers easily dismantled the Dolphins.

Now it’s Black Friday and for those not shopping, the Raiders take on the Chiefs this afternoon in an AFC West clash.

#2 – When you’ve had enough of sports this weekend, you may be looking for some streaming ideas.

Might I suggest the new series Landman on Paramount Plus? Billy Bob Thornton stars as an oil guy in Midland, Texas and the show mixes up all you’d expect from down there: rig pigs, high school football, family drama and plenty of swearing.

One line from the pilot stuck out to me: “I’ve spent my whole life being wrong,” Thornton said. “But at least I learned the lessons.”

That brings us to point #3.

#3 – Football fans are up-in-arms over the lack of loyalty these days in the CFL, highlighted by this week’s decision by the Montreal Alouettes to move on from quarterback Cody Fajardo as their starter just a year after he led them to the Grey Cup and was named MVP. But this lack of loyalty permeates all leagues these days, and the media industry too.

I’ve spent a thousand hours – or more – trying to figure out how we got to this point of “Do what’s best for you, because we’ll do what’s best for us. It’s not personal.”

It’s not like they don’t still love Cody (how couldn’t you?). But things change, and now Fajardo has to decide if he can live with the arrangement in Montreal or try his lack elsewhere.

It really is no different than the business world – they’ve been doing this for ages – and those who can navigate this landscape with no hard feelings nor emotion will have the most success.

Just like a land deal.

That’s why so many of us thank God daily for the hardships in our life because they provide the best lessons.
