Wednesday Commentary: Random Thoughts

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Random Thoughts day on this commentary. Let’s go …
#1 – Let’s start with the obvious, and less controversial. The NHL is back from the 4 Nations break with a vengeance. There were 12 games Tuesday night and the action was furious. For those following only casually, the homestretch has officially begun.
Tuesday’s highlight? Probably the Flames upsetting Washington 3-1 to move into a playoff spot in the West, and Alex Ovechkin scoring again for the Capitals to move just 12 back of Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record.
#2 – In the football world, the NFL’s movers and shakers have assembled in Indianapolis for the annual Combine. Testing begins Thursday and runs through Sunday but the NFL has figured out that most of us don’t care about the Underwear Olympics. However we do enjoy seeing the coaches and GMs being interviewed and hearing what they have to say.
They’ve turned it into a marketing opportunity.
#3 – Meanwhile the NFL Draft is exactly two months away but if you follow the League, this is all we’re going to hear about between now and then.
It’s also a tremendous marketing opportunity but most importantly, it’s how the best teams are built. There’s no clearcut #1 pick either, which adds much coveted intrigue for the event which runs April 24-26 in Green Bay.
Of interest to Canadian football fans will be where Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke (Oakville, ON) and Stanford’s Elic Ayomanor (Medicine Hat) get selected. They assuredly will.
And #4 – They’re still trying to cancel Wayne Gretzky, but apparently it’s not working.
Clearly you know by now which side of the ledger I’m on but I thought the furor over Gretzky’s relationship with Donald Trump would die down over the weekend. Nope. The cancel culture mob turned up the heat the past couple of days but it’s still having no effect. It must be driving them nuts!
RP Show viewers in Brantford, ON tell us the statue of the Great One is still standing proudly, and untouched.
Hey – no one’s denying Donald Trump is a dangerous piece of work. But rational people aren’t lumping Gretzky in with him.
Put it this way: do you want to be held accountable for the actions of your friends and associates?
Didn’t think so.
