Wednesday Commentary: Random Thoughts

It’s Wednesday and time for some random thoughts. Let’s count ‘em up …

#1 – It’s a scary time. A trade war has erupted, world leaders are fighting, and people have recklessly brought up the notion of World War III.

If it’s causing you stress and anxiety, remember to control what you can control. Usually, that’s just the way you respond to things. There’s not much any of us can do about any of this and fighting with your friends and loved ones can cause irreparable damage. Don’t do it!

That’s not to say these things aren’t affecting you – so be smart and do the right thing.

#2 – For some, if booing the U.S. or Canadian national anthem makes you feel better, than I’d suggest to go right ahead.

Aside from tossing things at players, if you pay your money to attend a sporting event, you can do pretty much whatever you please.

The boo’ing is still going on, and if the quote I saw from Justin Trudeau is correct, it’ll go on for some time.

It’s disrespectful but you know what? Who really is showing any respect to others these days?

#3 – Meantime the NHL Trade Deadline is on Friday and that’s generating the most buzz in my circles.

This is where the General Managers earn their money and the GMs who make the best moves will put their teams at the front of the pack. Or the best non-moves.

It’s generated almost endless debate. Florida’s Bill Zito has made the biggest splash so far, acquiring the top trade target in Seth Jones yet you have to wonder if Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff needs to do anything at all?

And should the Flames be active? They’re sitting in a playoff spot in Year 1 of a rebuild which is way, way ahead of schedule. Why would you want to tinker with that at all?

We’re in the sportstalk business, and business is good.
