Friday Commentary: Mr. Ed

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – You know by now that I don’t mix sports & politics – it’s bad for business – but I couldn’t help but notice Theoren Fleury chortling over the events in Edmonton on Thursday.

The Flames great said the Oilers suffered some bad karma by inviting interim Prime Minister Mark Carney to skate with the team in the morning, then they lost 4-3 in overtime to the Jets that night!

I didn’t think politics was meant to be entertaining, but this certainly has been.

#2 – I’ll have far more NHL thoughts in the RP Show weekend Newsletter – sign up for free today at RodPedersen.com – but one thing I thought last night was that the Florida Panthers must be running out of superlatives to describe goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

The future Hall of Famer rung up his 49th career shutout in the Panthers’ 1-0 victory at Columbus. It seems like every other game Bob’s getting a goose egg.

Quite a story …

#3 – Welp! I’ll have to find something to do with the 20 bucks I saved from not filling out a March Madness bracket. Mine would’ve gone down the tubes on Thursday when Montana lost to Wisconsin in the Round of 64.

I always pull for the Grizzlies! And they always lose early.

And #4 – Slow clap for the CFL who figured out that the Combine doesn’t generate many headlines, but having their personalities speak to the media at the Combine does.

And Edmonton Elks GM Ed Hervey is underfire today for saying, quote, “I don’t know any superstars in the CFL.”

He was referring to not offering pricey receiver Eugene Lewis a contract in free agency, but Ed’s comments have ticked off a lot of current, and past, CFL stars.

Ohhhhh Mr. Ed. Thank you for giving us topics for our talkshow, columns and commentaries!
