A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – Week 4 in the CFL opened Thursday with an entertaining one in Winnipeg, where the Bombers outscored Edmonton 13-0 in the fourth quarter on the way to a 36-23 victory.

Bombers now 3-0, Elks now 0-3.

Edmonton’s getting better, but they’re not there yet. Certainly not against the CFL’s marquee franchise – and Grey Cup hosts – who enjoyed a 3-touchdown night from QB Zach Collaros.

Deep down I wonder if the Bombers are dealing with issues that teams like the Roughriders and Florida Panthers have encountered: *new* fans who jumped on the bandwagon and aren’t even aware of the hard times which paved the path. For Bomber diehards, I’m certain this current five-plus year run of success will never get old consider “the drought” they endured.

As for the Elks, direction is more important than speed. Edmonton is headed in the right direction, but it’s taking far longer than they’d hoped.

TSN analyst Dave Naylor said on the broadcast that the Elks can’t afford to go 0-7, especially since they’re trying to rebuild a fanbase.

Sorry Dave, but I got news for you …

#2 – Round 1 of the NHL Draft goes tonight in Los Angeles. Of course I’ll be keeping an eye on it, but with no Pats expected to go high, this would be a good year for Regina hockey fans to take your eye off the ball.

Far bigger news is the items which leaked from the new collective bargaining agreement Thursday including a sizable salary cap increase in each of the next three years, the adding of two more games to the regular season, and a mechanism to prevent LTIR hijinx come playoff time.

Nothing, however, on the state income tax fairytale.

And #3 – It’s a big weekend for the Blue Jays. They won their midweek series at Cleveland and now open a set at Fenway Park tonight against the rival Red Sox.

The Jays are in a wild card spot, and three wins up on Boston in the AL East.

It’s funny how many Jays fans have revealed themselves to me once they learned I’m working in baseball for another summer.

It’s also funny what winning can do, to make people start paying attention again.

Lynden Lakovic from the Moose Jaw Warriors is projected to go tonight.

The state income tax for players is not a fairytale despite the nhl and Gary Bettman down playing it. That’s just something out of their control.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers_ they have always had a strong consistent fanbase throughout their existence, over in Riderville not so. That praire small town fanbase got old and it’s plain to see nobody new is overly excited to jump on their so called band wagon. Rider game day fanbase has always been a sporadic up and down bunch throughout the years with team telethons to save that football team to prove it. Over in Florida with the Panthers_ as the saying goes, If you build it they will come and the Florida Panthers have certainly done so in building a consistent… Read more »
