Friday Commentary: Playing With Fire

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:
#1 – Week 11 in the CFL started out with a bang. The Ottawa Redblacks erased a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter and made it 27-27 at Winnipeg in the final minute. However Bomber kicker Sergio Castillo drilled a 57-yard field goal with no time left to give Winnipeg a 30-27 victory. Just a typical night in the CFL, especially this year.
I woke up to all this noise from pundits criticizing Bomber coach Mike O’Shea for his late-game decisions which almost ended in a loss. Pundits, that is, that have never coached a game. Hilarious!
Tonight, Toronto at Edmonton.
#2 – It was a quick trip to Calgary for yours truly – not even there for 24 hours – to host the RP Show at Theoren Fleury’s golf tournament and emcee the lunch & Hot Stove. The star of the show was Flames great Tim Hunter who told dozens of hilarious fight stories. The Calgarians never seem to get tired of those!
The cat’s out of the bag; I went to NHL markets to do NHL things before I died because it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.
It’s going great.
#3 – It’s sounds like the biggest crowd ever at Regina’s Currie Field. Over 2,000 showed up Thursday night for Game 1 of the Western Canadian Baseball League championship final which saw the Sylvan Lake Gulls win 3-2 in extra innings over the Red Sox.
Talk about putting on the miles! Game 2 goes tonight in Sylvan as the Gulls look to complete the sweep in the Best-of-3 and win their first league title in franchise history.
The Red Sox have other ideas, as they plan to win tonight in Central Alberta and force a Game 3 Saturday night, also in Sylvan.
What a summer it has been …
