Fall is for football and we are certainly in the meat of it!

Here are some Game Notes from our friends in the NFL & CFL P.R. departments heading into the weekend …

In the NFL, iconic coach Marc Trestman has said L-A Chargers QB Justin Herbert is the best QB in the NFL. The numbers back it up. Should Herbert throw for 300-yards in Week 4 at the Giants, he’ll become just the fourth quarterback in NFL history with 30, 300-yard passing games in his first six seasons. The others? Dan Marino, Kurt Warner and Patrick Mahomes.

Meanwhile this gets a little nerdy but Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson – in each of three games this season – has thrown for two TDs, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 148-or-higher. If he does it again this week at K.C., he’ll be the first player in NFL history to do it in the first four games of a season.

In the CFL, this week’s games don’t really need any hype. They’re all big enough on their own. But the game notes tell us the Riders will clinch a home playoff game if BC loses to Toronto Friday night, and the Riders win at Edmonton on Saturday.

Hamilton can clinch a playoff spot with a win at Winnipeg on Saturday, and a Toronto loss at BC on Friday night.

And keep your eye on Montreal. They host Calgary on Friday and are unbeaten in their last five games against the Stampeders and veteran quarterback McLeod Bethel Thompson is 2-0 since returning from injury.

However it appears the Alouettes are going with their #1, Davis Alexander who’s coming off the 6-game injured list.

On the flipside if the Elkimos can’t beat Saskatchewan on Saturday, they won’t be officially eliminated from the playoffs but you can pretty much turn the lights out on their season.

I’m excited to see how many turn out for that game at Commonwealth Stadium.

Oh and as for the Blue Jays who’ve gone on a last-week-of-the-season slide, here’s a tip:

It’s better to lose these games now than next week in the playoffs.

Y’er welcome.
