Tuesday Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: Woke up this morning to see that the L.A. Chargers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 22-19 in overtime on Monday Night Football. It was just another pro football game that’s gone down to the wire this year. It was good to spend the weekend with football guys – the Riders Marc Mueller & Luc Mullinder – and discuss how and why NFL & CFL games have experienced unprecedented parity, unpredictability and last-second finishes.
Hey I make picks, but I don’t bet. Therefore I’m not losing money on this madness. Something tells me I’m going to thank myself later.
Next the great: Anze Kopitar had one goal in Monday night’s L.A. Kings victory over the Utah Mammoth, moving him to within 15 points of Marcel Dionne as the top scorer in Kings history.
It’s not great that Dionne’s record is going to fall but it is great that the diminutive forward is getting some recognition some 40 years after he put L.A. on the map as a hockey town.
When Connor Bedard was coming up, I compared him to Marcel Dionne and most didn’t know who I was talking about!
Maybe now they will with Marcel’s name in the news.
And finally the ugly: NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Monday the league is “cautiously optimistic” that the ice and arena will be ready to go for hockey at the Italy Olympics.
You may wanna go read the story at NHL.com because it’s hard to believe but Daly told reporters at Monday’s NHL meetings in Colorado that there have been communication mixups with those in charge (where have we heard that before) but the forecast is favorable for NHL players to play in the Olympics in two months.
Sometimes trusting people to do their jobs properly is something we wind up regretting later.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
