It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on this Commentary! Let’s have a look …

#1 – Tuesday was a pretty good day in the hockey world, depending who you are. Hockey Canada announced Florida forward Sam Bennett will be an injury replacement for Tampa forward Anthony Cirelli for the Olympics.

One man’s loss is another man’s gain but kudos to Bennett who, when he was snubbed a month ago, handled it with class and dignity. A month later, he got the call.

There’s a big lesson in there …

#2 – I guess Olympic Mens Hockey begins a week from today? Honestly when you focus One Day At A Time like I do, things like that get lost but that’s what I’m hearing in the media today.

Oh well, this method works for me and we’ll get there when we get there.

Go Canada!

#3 – The NHL and ESPN announced Sunday night’s Outdoor Game in Tampa Bay was the most-watched NHL regular season game ever with 2.1-million viewers. What a thrill it was to be there! It didn’t hurt that there was no NFL to go up against in the ratings.

If you haven’t noticed, hockey’s hot right now. One critic said Sunday’s festivities – fireworks, costumes, a goalie fight, etc. – added up to a circus.

I say: Who doesn’t love a circus?

#4 – We’re slowly building the anticipation to Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara, CA on Sunday. Our usual football friends are joining the RP Show this week as we tee up the Big Game; Jeff Reinebold is working the telecast for Irish TV and joined us Tuesday while Seahawks Super Bowl-winning punter Jon Ryan joins us today from San Fran.

I was a little disappointed in Tuesday night’s coverage on NFL Network as they ran a countdown of the best Super Bowl TV ads of all-time, rather than a breakdown of the Seattle-New England match-up.

But I suppose, there’s plenty of time for that.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Cudos to Jon Ryan for owning a Super Bowl ring. But, his image was sure tarnished during his Roughrider years. Constantly ignoring the coaches and kicking for stats rather than team oriented field position.
