A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – Trust Matt Stafford to save the day. Did you tune into NFL Honors on Thursday night – the NFL’s annual awards show on the Thursday of Super Bowl Week?

I did. There aren’t a whole lot more positive people than me but I was initially unimpressed. Host Jon Hamm’s jokes weren’t great and he seemed uncomfortable delivering them. And who on earth would get a trophy presenter who doesn’t know how to pronounce the winner’s name? (Poor Jaxon Smith-Njiba). Like, do you even watch NFL football?

Anyway, Matthew Stafford saved the day when the L.A. Rams quarterback came on stage to accept his MVP award with his four little girls in tow. As Cactus Jack likes to say, “And it all turned out nice again.”

#2 – Paul Maurice entered Panthers-Lightning rivalry lore last night by getting tossed from Florida’s 6-1 loss at Tampa Bay. Let’s just say, he got an early start on his Olympic break.

The latest installment of the Battle of Florida was must-see TV and is stealing the highlights from another great night in the NHL. A Matthew Tkachuk-Brandon Hagel rematch from the Four Nations Faceoff headlined the proceedings as well, amid many scraps.

A friend texted during the game and said it looked like a Weyburn-Estevan donnybrook, circa 1986.

Things that make your heart flutter!

And #3 – With that, teams are now on the Olympic break but it’s nary a break for the Florida teams. The Panthers have 10 players going to Italy, and the Lightning nine.

The only thing before that is Super Bowl 60 on Sunday in San Fran where the Seahawks are favored by 4.5-points to beat New England.

I’ll be cheering for the Patriots, but taking Seattle to cover.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

It turns out there is no agenda per se when it comes to HOF/MVP voting…… Did anyone witness ESPNs Dan Orlevsky having to reduce himself to debating DEI Placement Mina Kimes? S Mina Kimes voted for Drake Maye for MVP. She is female/half Korean and on a panel with the blonde and the ‘baiter/prosperity preacher Stephen A….. For Danny O: Men suffer in silence and what I witnessed and continue to witness on these Major League sports panels is DEI/Woke has no place. When it comes to International Woman’s Day or National Day of Girls understand one thing and teach… Read more »
