Friday Commentary: The More Things Change …

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts, and questions entering the weekend …
#1 – Mens Hockey is underway at the Olympics and on Thursday, Canada walloped Czechia 5-0 and USA spanked Latvia 5-1. Can we just get to the gold medal final already?
#2 – Did you watch the game? Have you checked out Canada’s powerplay? Crosby, McDavid, Reinhart, MacKinnon and Makar with Binnington in goal.
Deadly, yes. But I think this Canada team would lose to an 80’s unit which boasted Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Coffey and Bourque on the man advantage, with Fuhr in goal.
Sadly we’ll never know.
Maybe the kids could set it up in a video game????
#3 – Pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training in Florida and Arizona and we’re hearing from the managers and arms for the first time, reflecting on last season and looking ahead to this season.
For the moment, I just can’t.
#4 – It’s with great amusement that I’m following CFL free agency. The Riders are getting raided, yes, but the Rider Nation is generally pleased the team was able to lock up key parts like quarterback Trevor Harris and running back A.J. Ouellette. The grumbling seems minimal at the moment, which is understandable since the Green & White are reigning Grey Cup champs.
But there’s complaints league-wide about how the Hamilton Tiger-Cats seem to be spending credit card money, snatching up the likes of QB Tre Ford and return specialist Mario Alford, among others. Clearly the Ticats are going for broke, with the longest Grey Cup drought in CFL history – 26 years – in tow.
Are fans forgetting that the salary cap doesn’t apply in the off-season?
The more things change, the more they remain the same.

I think Ottawa and Edmonton are also spending “credit card” money. Some of the reported contracts the players are getting are astronomical!
AND, LOTS of those ridiculous contracts.! Can’t buy a championship……no doubt both of those teams will be over the cap, with BC right behind them. Those big contracts won’t get cut Rod, for obvious reasons. Last year Elks spent almost a million on a D line……..that didn’t pan out. Corey and O’Day know what they’re doing. Oh, Redblacks will be over too. No consequences to be concerned about……..couple of draft picks and a few hundred thousand $$.
jo & cm bought a 2025 cfl grey cup championship for the riders. Why does a riderville fanbase always have to be defensive and offensive when other cfl teams make great changes to their respective rosters moving forward? Is it because the riders struggle year after year as evident by only 5 grey cuo titles in a very long drawn out team history?
They did not. They were and are under the cap. BC was well over……
Do you have the financial books to prove your point?
