It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! Let’s have a look:
#1 – Buckle up. The NHL returns from the Olympic break tonight with an eight game slate and the two biggest ones are clear: the Leafs at Tampa Bay in an Atlantic Division showdown while in L.A., Artemi Panarin makes his Kings debut against Vegas. It’s gonna be a race to the finish line.
Start your engines.
#2 – Hopefully calmer heads prevail and the suits take a deep breath in the aftermath of the Olympics. Some are suggesting that with all the hubbub and vitriol caused by the USA winning gold in mens hockey (and women’s) – and the massive fallout since – the NHL should consider not sending its players to the next Winter Olympics.
I’m sorry, what?
It’s not the NHL’s fault that people are idiots. They wouldn’t have sent their players if they didn’t think this was a boon for the sport and I’d suggest the TV ratings prove they were right.
Don’t let the Negative Nelsons win. (John Lynch term)
#3 – God bless market research. We had a poll on the RP Show asking if viewers were *into* this week’s NFL Combine and 89% of respondents said no, they aren’t. Good! Because I’m not either so now there’s no need to follow it.
#4 – Football fans in Vegas are panicking cuz projected #1 overall pick Fernando Mendosa has informed the NFL that he won’t be participating in on-field drills in Indianapolis. Our Nevada TV partner Silver State Sports & Entertainment posed the question of “is this a red flag for drafting the Indiana star?”. The Raiders own the #1 overall pick this spring.
Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders passed on it last year but their rookie seasons turned out fine.
What I’m most interested to watch is how the NFL handles one of their marquee off-season events becoming passe.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

NHL’ers in the Olympics will grow the game even more. It was mentioned about Gretzky and the Dallas Stars expanding the USA hockey footprint. Not to be lost in this would be the ECHL. They play in these smaller North American markets and that has built interest. What people will see is Americans taking over and that’s a good thing. Fernando Mendoza is going to make another great addition to remember when the song “Glory Days” is played. He’s a product of his system. FYI The great Ron Duguay has cancer, and a go fund me page. It was a great speech, I was chuckling to myself listening to the retired boomers whining about it to each other at the gym this morning, Trump lives rent free in their heads 24/7 they are truly deranged. As a gen Xer i can see how their generation is largely responsible for the sad state this country is in.
Which gym? They seem to be a cohort caricature in all gyms in the morning. God tells us to just move on as he’s going to be handling everything. When it comes to that vile generation and all they’ve done to society. The saving grace is eventually they wind up in a socialized health care system withering away OR a for profit care home where the kids dump them off to wander around in dementia. Either way is a fitting end to a miserable selfish existence. I’ve seen it firsthand and they deserve the fate they get. They believe in… Read more »
