A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – Well this is it! Canada plays the USA Friday in the biggest came in Baseball Canada’s history. It’s a quarterfinal at the World Baseball Classic in Houston and it truly is a David vs Goliath match-up.

Everybody’s into it – whether you’re a baseball fan or not – and those who don’t follow the sport asked me if Canada’s got a chance. The answer to that is: not much. I see the oddsmakers have the USA listed as -1000 favourites and I don’t even know what that means. I assume it’s bad?

But that’s what makes it fun.

#2 – 14 games in the NHL Thursday night and there obviously several highlights. In a battle of Western Conference heavyweights, Dallas throttled Edmonton 7-2 to show who’s boss. For now.

Here in Sunrise, Sergei Bobrovsky was vintage in the Florida Panthers’ 2-1 OT win over Columbus. Afterwards Bob was asked about all the trade deadline drama last week surrounding his name.

His response was that he loves the team, loves the fans, loves the organization, loves his teammates, loves everything, and wants to stay.

Sergei wouldn’t make much of a poker player! But those of us who wear our heart on our sleeve rarely end up regretting it.

At least you know where we stand.

And #3 – Please, please hold me to my vow to never truly get into College basketball. It’s fun as hell watching the excitement leading up to March Madness but it’s also hella confusing to figure out how the teams are getting there I’d prefer to just sit back and enjoy as a fan. There have been multiple offers for me to work in hoops here in Florida but I’m not sure it’s a mountain I wanna climb.

But I guess – never say never.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
