A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – Everyday on the RP Show we open with The Big Story and frankly, in my world, the big story is Thursday’s new broadcast deal announced by the CFL which kicks in in 2027. What it boils down to is fans being required to pay $25 a month to streaming service DAZN to get one of the games per week.

Like you, I’m already paying for streaming services and am not excited about adding another. For instance, I pay $40 a month to ESPN+ to get every single NHL game in the US but it’s worth it. Meanwhile, I won’t pay more for MLB even though it’s an option.

Final analysis? We’ve got a year to think about it and the CFL’s got a year to really make people want to pay the extra money. It’s the way of sports TV these days folks.

#2 – Three teams are still alive in the race for the Stanley Cup: Vegas, Montreal and Carolina. While many Canadians have checked out and gotten on with their summers, at least as many are still following it very closely, including yours truly.

Vegas awaits the winner of the Eastern Conference Final which could end tonight. Carolina hosts Montreal, leading 3-games-to-two.

#3 – Play ball! The Western Canadian Baseball League season got underway Thursday night and in my world, the Moose Jaw Miller Express opened with a 6-4 victory at Swift Current. We could get used to that! Tonight’s our home opener at Ross Wells Park against the league champion Regina Red Sox. Or as our new players call them, “Reh-JEAN-ah”.

God bless the kids.
