It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Excitement for the World Cup around here is good, not great. And when I say “here”, I mean Saskatchewan. The rectangle.

And that’s to be expected. Our TV show & podcast has viewers across the continent and in all major centers, and they were shocked to know the 306 isn’t overrun by watch parties and the like.

Hey – it is what it is. People here didn’t grow up with soccer and if anybody understands that, it’s me.

To each their own.

Next the great: What we did grow up with is baseball and I don’t have a friend that isn’t watching the Blue Jays these days, and have been all season long. We have Mondays off in the WCBL so that afforded me the opportunity to tune into the Blue Jays-Mets clash at Rogers Centre; Bo Bichette’s return.

I turned it on at the exact moment Bichette came to the plate for the first time, and caught Vladdy telling Bo to take his batting helmet off for the ovation he was receiving from Jays fans.

It was quite a moment, and Sportsnet does SUCH a great job of televising Blue Jays baseball.

Toronto went on to win 2-1, and it all turned out nice again.

And finally the ugly: It’s not ugly I’m but I’m sure non-hockey fans wish the NHL would just go away. The flurry of trades leading up to Wednesday’s July 1 opening of free agency has been head-spinning and in truth, rather hard to keep up with.

The ugly part is the coming and going of players. Few may care that the Florida Panthers shipped grinder A-J Greer to Anaheim for Radko the Butcher on Tuesday, but some Panthers fans are inconsolable over the move. Greer was a regular at the Panthers’ Adaptive (special) hockey team practices and those players are having a very tough time. They’ve reached out to me to help make it make sense.

If only I knew what to tell them.
