Thursday Commentary: Final Four

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
Fall is still for football, the last I checked.
And even though the Riders aren’t in it anymore, are you still following the CFL playoffs?
They’re down to the final four and it’s another doubleheader Saturday as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit Montreal in the East Final while in the West, it’s the BC Lions at the Edmonton Elks.
That East Final really only comes down to whether quarterback Zach Collaros will play for Winnipeg for not. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and either way, Montreal is favoured by 9.5-points.
Sure the Bombers won with a back-up last week in Round 1, but the Toronto Argonauts imploded in the fourth quarter. The Alouettes don’t do that.
I’m taking Montreal to win and at this time of year, the point spread doesn’t matter.
Farrrrrr more interesting is the West Final where the upstart Elks host the Lions in a match-up of wildlife. And it could get wild. Edmonton’s favoured by 1.5-points at home and the team says they’re selling 2,000 tickets per day in the lead up. They think it could hit 37,000.
The numbers will be what they are; but the biggest story here is how the BC Lions have never won on the road in the playoffs with quarterback Nathan Rourke so that’s huge.
Rourke’s going up against an Edmonton team who’s never been here before, but their quarterback has. His name is Cody Fajardo, and he’s a former Grey Cup MVP.
Either way, the Elks are inexperienced (Cody can’t do it alone) and Lions are hella motivated.
So I’ll take BC.
And that would set up rematch of the 2006 Grey Cup, only this time in Calgary.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
