JON RYAN TRIES OUT FOR RIDERS
Jon Ryan wore his familiar #9 in a workout session with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Vero Beach, FL on Sunday.
It was Day 1 of the Riders’ annual Florida minicamp and the Seattle Seahawks career punting leader was happy with how he showed.
“It went well,” Ryan told Michael Ball Sunday night. “I think I hit the ball pretty well. It didn’t go as well as I wanted it to but it never seems to go that way. But ya, it was a good workout and I was happy with it.”
Ballsy asked Ryan what could’ve gone better.
“I’m just a perfectionist. I’m almost never happy with the way my punting goes. That’s just the way I’ve always been. We watched it back on film and it turns out it was pretty good but you always pick apart every little thing you did wrong.”
The Regina product was asked if the Riders gave him any indication of where this road will lead in the way of offering him a contract.
“Not really to be honest,” Ryan shrugged. “We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks with some other workouts. I guess we’ll see who was the most impressed.”
The 37-year old Ryan has a handful of other workouts lined up this spring.
“The Argos are the only one I can talk about. That’s coming up on Friday. There are two, possibly three other teams that are interested as well. Those are all CFL teams.”
Ryan has made millions over the course of his 15-year pro football career so he’s not back on the field because he needs the money. He was clear about that.
“I just love it,” Ryan laughed. “I just love the game. I love being on the field. I love kicking footballs. That’s what it comes down to. It was tough not being able to play for the last eight months and I just really missed it. It was good to get back on the field today, hopefully for this season and many more to come.”
