Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final went to Chicago. The Blackhawks squeaked out a 2-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning to open the series. Teuvo Teravainen and Antoine Vermette scored two goals in under two minutes to supply Chicago’s offence.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could be up for sale. Pens’ ownership said in a statement they are in the middle of a feeling out process that could include anything from an outright sale to selling a share of the team or standing pat. Penguins co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle have hired investment bank Morgan Stanley to explore their options.

Mark Buehrle earned his 11th career shutout, going the distance as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 8-0. Buehrle allowed just six hits and needed only 93 pitches to earn his seventh win of the season.

In the AL East, the Boston Red Sox split a day-night double header against the Minnesota Twins, the Baltimore Orioles fell to the Houston Astros 3-1, the New York Yankees toppled the Seattle Mariners 3-1 and the Tampa Bay Rays edged out the L-A Angels in 10 innings, 6-5.

James Shields threw seven strong innings to remain unbeaten and Will Middlebrooks drove in three runs as the San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets 7-3. Shields allowed two runs and six hits while striking out four en route to a 7-and-0 record.

Former FIFA executive committee member Chuck Blazer told a US federal judge that he and others on the governing body’s ruling panel agreed to receive bribes to vote for South Africa to host the 2010 World Cup. Prosecutors unsealed a 20-page transcript of the November 2013 hearing in U-S District Court during which Blazer pleaded guilty to racketeering and other charges.
