ALOUETTES 17 TICATS 13
MONTREAL (CP) – Rookie quarterback Rakeem Cato found S.J. Green with a touchdown pass in the second half and the Montreal Alouettes downed the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 17-13 in a defensive CFL struggle on Thursday night.
Boris Bede had three field goals and a single for Montreal (2-2), which has not lost at home to the Tiger-Cats in 18 games since Oct. 20, 2002.
Ray Holley scored his first career touchdown and Jason Medlock had a pair of field goals for Hamilton (1-2).
Ticats quarterback Zach Collaros threw three interceptions, including one to defensive lineman Alan-Michael Cash with 1:47 left to play. On a final drive, Hamilton’s Terrence Toliver fumbled and Gabriel Knapton recovered.
Montreal also contained Hamilton’s star kick returner Brandon Banks, who had return TDs in each of the first two games.
The Ticats led 10-7 during a flag-filled first half in which neither team moved the ball consistently. Montreal had minus-5 yards rushing for the half.
The Alouettes wore their grey, feather-themed alternate jerseys before a crowd of 20,772. They are 22-9 all-time in “third” jerseys, including 9-0 against Hamilton.
The Alouettes have a bye next week, while the Ticats have a 10-day break before their next game July 26 at Saskatchewan.
I commented early in the year that Rakeem Cato was someone to watch… Strangely a bunch of armchair QB's came out and said, nah, seen it before he won't last…. Yeah right, this kid looks like Damon Allen out there and he has only played 3 games.
Someone to watch, likely he will be around the CFL for years to come and will be as force to reckon with.

Alouettes are for real- Redblacks enjoying early season success – Bombers on their way back ? – Toronto winning record while on the road – appears we have parity in the CFL. Hope this continues as good for TV revenue – the fans – and the Teams..
Hmmm???? Rekeem Cato???? Saskatchewan Roughriders???? 1+1 = released ???? an doing mighty fine elsewhere = Montreal Alouettes.
Go Cato Go Cato Go Cato get ur groove on.
Told ya they'd win Rod. Better stop going against the Als! Cato looked great and that defence just showed again why they're #1! Go Als!

REMIND ME AGAIN WHY I SIGNED UP FOR THAT POOL… OMG
Judging by the score in this game, good defence can be played with the new rules. What's the riders excuse?
Brutal game to watch… 2 of the weakest teams in the league struggling mightily to score points against each other… the officials, as per usual, made the game harder to watch as well…
So many "negative nellies" visiting this site and throwing their frustrations at the keyboard and shouting for attention. Would be nice if you could find some happiness in your life and start feeling good about yourself and those around you.
Well said
To whoever said, 'Brutal game to watch'… I will suggest that football might not be for you… If you do prefer other sports over football, that is fine, but don't get down on a game for no good reason. Also, when you mention "2 of the weakest teams in the league"; now you are just ridiculous. I don't know if you are serious with your comments (hard to believe), or if you are just a child looking for attention. I almost feel bad giving you the attention, but let's just say you've been noticed as an attention seeking negative loser.… Read more »
