ALOUETTES SIGN FORMER RIDER PUNTER

Montreal, May 11, 2015 – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Monday that the club has signed veteran international kicker Ricky Schmitt, who attended the team’s mini-camp last month in Vero Beach, FL, to a one-year deal.

Schmitt (6’3″, 213 lbs.)  played eight seasons of professional football, including the last one with the BC Lions where he suited up for 17 games, maintaining a 44.5 yard average on 139 punts. The Virginia Beach, VA native had previously played for two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders where he was named the team’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for the 2013 season. The former Shepherd University Ram played in 35 CFL career-games.

Before joining the CFL, the 29-year-old kicker spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (2007, 2012), San Francisco 49ers (2008, 2009), Oakland Raiders (2008, 2009), Tennessee Titans (2010) and San Diego Chargers (2011).
