ALS COACHES LEND A HAND AT EAST-WEST BOWL
The Montreal Alouettes are well represented at the East-West Bowl, which goes this week in Quebec City, as Jason Hogan, Billy Parker and Greg Quick will be part of the coaching staff of the 15th edition of this game, which allows potential 2018 CFL Canadian draftees to shine.
The coaches will not only pass on pointers and knowledge to the players, but they will also have a front row view to the cream of the crop ahead of next year’s draft.
Teams practice at the Laval University Peps and the week will culminate on Saturday, at 12:30 p.m. ET, when both teams square off at the Telus-Université Laval Stadium.
Hogan will find himself in familiar territory, as he was a quarterback for the Rouge et Or for a season. The Montrealer will serve as a defensive assistant in 2017, after holding a similar position on the offensive staff last season. Prior to joining the Alouettes, Hogan was the College André-Grasset Phénix’s Offensive Coordinator from 2011 to 2014, following two seasons as the team’s Quarterbacks Coach. In his six seasons on the coaching staff with André-Grasset, he helped the team win three championships.
Parker will be in his first season as a member of the Alouettes coaching staff, following a brilliant eight-year career in Montreal’s secondary, suiting up for 129 games, which he all started, amassing 336 defensive tackles, while intercepting 14 passes and knocking down 53. He was also a coach with the Richmond Raiders of the Southern Indoor Football League, prior to taking his talents North of the border.
Quick, who has cumulated close to 40 years of coaching experience, will be in his third season on the Alouettes coaching staff, following his return to Montreal in 2016, as the linebackers coach. He saw his protégé Bear Woods complete the season with a team-record 126 defensive tackles last season. He was the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Defensive Coordinator in 2015. The university-level players will be able to learn from an experienced and well-versed true teacher of the game.
