ALS LOCK UP TISDALE

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to a one-year contract extension with cornerback Geoff Tisdale, which locks down one of the most effective defensive players on the team.

Tisdale (6’01”, 185 lbs.) once again experienced a remarkable season, being a central part of the Alouettes’ defensive successes. The former Pittsburg State University Gorilla suited up for 16 games last season recording 39 defensive tackles, including a sack. After leading the CFL the previous year with an impressive total of seven interceptions, Tisdale showcased yet again his talent by notching five picks in 2014, which placed him third in the League.

His contributions helped the Alouettes defence lead the CFL with 47 turnovers in 2014. The consistency he has shown throughout the season allowed him to earn a second-straight selection on the East Division All-star team. His nine knockdowns in regular season proved his effectiveness in various defensive coverages. He added four defensive tackles and two knockdowns in the Eastern Final against the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton.

“Geoff has been one of the top corners in the CFL over the last two seasons,” said Alouettes General Manager, Jim Popp. “He has consistently been at the top in leading the CFL in interceptions and has great man skill abilities. We look forward to another successful year from Geoff in 2015.”

The seven-year CFL veteran also wore the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Calgary Stampeders colours. The 28-year-old athlete was named a CFL All-star in his first season in Montreal in  2013. In 114 games in the CFL, Tisdale has amassed 291 defensive tackles, including three quarterback sacks as well as five special teams tackles. His 29 career-interceptions attest to how important he is for the team’s defensive game planning.

The Alouettes have re-signed 16 of their potential free agents since the end of last season.
