ALS TO RETIRE CALVILLO’S NUMBER
The Montreal Alouettes organization will honour Anthony Calvillo, the former star-quarterback who rewrote the CFL’s record books during his sixteen seasons with the Alouettes, as the team will retire his number 13 jersey on Monday, October 13 when the team faces the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
The longtime face of the franchise and five-time CFL All-Star was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player on three separate occasions over the course of his career and holds league records of 79,816 passing yards, 455 touchdown passes, 5,892 completions and 9,437 pass attempts.
“Having my number 13 retired alongside the team’s greatest legends like Sam Etchevery, Peter Dalla Riva and my former teammate Mike Pringle at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium is an incredible privilege”, commented Anthony Calvillo. “I consider myself very fortunate to have been surrounded by so many talented individuals throughout my career. Without the contributions from Jim Popp, those exceptional coaches and my great teammates, none of this would have been possible”.
Calvillo, who was presented with the Key to the City at the end of the 2011 season, led the Alouettes to eight Grey Cup tilts and owns several championship records for most pass completions (179), passing yards (2,470) and touchdown passes thrown.
Calvillo lives in Montreal with his wife Alexia and their daughters Olivia and Athena.
Calvillo’s number 13 is the tenth jersey that the Alouettes retire. His jersey will join those of Herb Trawick (56), Virgil Wagner (78), Sam Etchevery (72), Hal Patterson (75), George Dixon (28), Pierre Desjardins (63), Peter Dalla Riva (74), Junior Ah You (77) and Mike Pringle (27).
Trust those a$$h*le Alouettes to pick the home game against the Riders to do this honour. The number 13 has all sorts of implications during this ceremony.
They're also doing it cause they know it'll be a guaranteed sellout with the Riders in town. If your having a special event it makes sense to do it at a game when the league's marque franchise is in town 🙂
Those who care to notice, know that I hide in plain sight. Kind of like Gus Freen on Breaking Bad. Long story short my son met Calvillo at the Thunder dinner. He's an gian Als and A.C fan. For Anthony to take what had to have been 20-25 minutes before the event had started to speak to him about concussions, faith, life you name it they went off by themselves. You couldn't meet a better man than Anthony Calvillo. He is a true champion, and a class act. Anthony told me, "You got one heck of a young man there."… Read more »
A little name dropping eh Obama.
Here's more name dropping.
During the same event I take my son over to a fellow and say, "excuse me sir is it okay if I make an introduction?" Fellow says, "Sure" I say to my son, "(name), I want to introduce you to thee greatest of them all…." Fellow laughs and says, "He's not here. What's your name young fella?" Fellow gives my son a hug, and says, "Nice to meet you I'm Roger Aldag."
Roger Aldag is timeless. My son says, "Was he good?" I say, "You just met royalty."
Y'er Welcome
Obama
Hey Obama, just two weeks ago you were telling us that everyone today is better than Roger's era.
Go to h&;@ BLOWBAMA!
People are reading too much into Calvillo's number being retired. He wore number 13, and his number is being retired on Oct. 13. It just so happens, the Riders will be in town then. Anthony Calvillo was a great QB for the CFL, and no one can take that away from him. That day has been set aside for him, and anyone reading more into it, is feeling a little insecure.

Simply not true. What defines "the greatest" – it isn't numbers. There are a lot of intangibles, but let me just add something. …interesting did I say they were better than Roger specifally? Let me be clear although weight/size/speed on a CFL O-Lineman may change – the technique of an O-Line man doesn't change. It's blocking, angling, footwork, and leadership. Would you care to comment on who beats Roger in these regards? Two guys that could step on the field and play right now would be Roger Aldag and Lyle Bauer from Winnipeg. Those were the closest things to monsters… Read more »
Obama, I knew you'd rearrange things to make it look like you're right. But, the fact is two weeks ago you strongly stated that anyone from the past couldn't even make a team today because the youngsters are so much better now. Of course you were trying to lowball Ed McQuarters and fell into your own trap and included everyone. HaHa
