ANAHEIM SIGNS SAM STEEL
The Ducks have signed first round draft choice Sam Steel to a three-year entry-level contract.
Steel, 18 (2/3/98), leads the Western Hockey League (WHL) in scoring this season (23-31=54 points) despite missing six games due to injury. He also ranks third in the league in goals and plus/minus (+27).
Steel was drafted by the Ducks in the first round (30th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He played in 72 games with Regina of the Western Hockey League last season, scoring 23-47=70 points with 24 penalty minutes (PIM). He added 6-10=16 points in 12 playoff games. The 5-11, 178-pound center also played with Regina in 2013-14 (five games, scoreless) and 2014-15 (61 games, 17-37=54 points).
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Steel played with the Sherwood Park Kings of the Alberta Midget Hockey League in 2013-14, scoring 7-16=23 points in 14 games. He also helped Team Alberta win a gold medal at the Western Canada Challenge Cup and was named to the tournament All-Star Team. Playing with Canada, Steel won a gold medal at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (1-2=3 points in four games).

There you go Regina finally you can quit whining about Steel not making Team Canada now he goes Big League and that should make you all happier. Congrats to Mr. Steel a great young hockey player.
Well thank you anonymous for explaining these things to us. Of course we in Regina don't understand these things like you do so we look forward to you guiding us in the future.
Congrats Sam, well deserved!
He will be in the nhl next season. Another player that doesn't get to play wjhc
Lol no he won't. Nowhere near NHL ready.
He will play with Regina one more season
It's a great thing for this young man. He deserves it much like he deserved to be on the WJC team. His biggest downfall was his province of birth. Too bad but it's the Hockey Canada way. Anaheim doesn't need to rush him along so they will let him develop in the WHL next season, and then some time in the American League after that to learn how to play defence better along with getting bigger and stronger.
Nice little bit of news for his holidays.
I guarantee he will NOT be playing in NHL next season. Give the kid time to develop to that next step.
Wow…. Canada another shutout tonight in pre warm up to the World's How did they ever do that without Regina's Sam Steel ?
The ducks are rebuilding after this year and will be like marner with the leafs, which Sam is bigger then. The new nhl is younger the better. I hope he returns but he is almost ready to play now if you evaluate him against some of this years rookies not the big 2 but the rest.
If Sam Steel plays more than 100 NHL games, I would be surprised.
What an uneducated duma$$ comment. Steel will only be back because he isnt big enough. He is plenty skilled enough, fast enough and good enough in his own zone. Steel WILL NOT be in the AHL to work on his D. lol Another dumb comment
