ANOTHER PATS TRADE
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats have acquired a seventh round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In exchange, the Pats send 18-year-old defenceman Brady Pouteau to Lethbridge.
Pouteau was a fourth round pick by the Pats in 2013. In 61 games over parts of two seasons, the Oak Bluff, Manitoba product has two goals, seven assists and is a plus seven.
“We wish Brady all the best with the Hurricanes,” said Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock. “He has been a solid player for our team.”
The Pats return to action Friday night in at the Brandt Centre against the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at reginapats.com and the Brandt Centre Box Office.
….an 18 year old D-man who is 6'3" – 200 lbs and has been a plus player his two years here….for a 7th round pick??? That was a steal by Lethbridge in a year where there is a shortage of d-men. The Pats are becoming like Goodwill where you can go get good stuff for cheap. Very unimpressed with the return!
3 trades and seems to be hard to see how any of them were good for Pats.
Hasn't played that much in 2 years. Lots of DMen on the roster. Need room for younger DMen like Bruce and Barteaux to play. Guess JP believes these are good young prospects. At least got something for him.
In Paddock I Trust!
I trust that Paddock reached out to all of the WHL teams to find a home for the player. Typically WHL teams send an email/fax (player available for trade form) to all clubs to gage the return. I am sure he was aware of the market. Pouteau was probably not going to see very much playing time this season. Rather than sit the kid for the rest of year Paddock found a home for him where he has an opportunity to develop and play a bigger role. As for being a plus player. Every player on the Pats with the… Read more »
John Moore – I am assuming that was a "tongue in cheek" comment? If not, please explain.
Be honest people, this was the only fair thing to do for Pouteau. He wasn't going to get enough playing time in Regina.
I must say John I truly disagree with your statement of none of these trades look good for the pats. Pouteau only dressed 50% of the games in the last 2 seasons. Half the games as an 18 year old. JP did this to give the kid an opportunity to stay in the league rather than play Jr a. Good on him. We got smart who is a 17 year old who can play pp and likely will be drafted in NHL was a great move. Could play 4 years. Maybe our next pp specialist. Factor in future and can… Read more »
Pouteau asked for the trade. I'm sure these boys just want to play hockey, wherever it may be.
Above – solid statement on the breakdown of the deals. I agree 100%.
How can u not trust Paddock, look at his resume.
Getting these drafts picks in the recent deals could mean Paddock is getting his hand in place for future bigger deal?
Bad trades??? what an absolutely uneducated comment. 1. Smart was acquired and is over a point a game with us since coming and is great defensively to boot. 2.Davidson for a 4th liner who has never hit 20 points 3. Sloboshan, a captain at 18 in the league, who will be a 30 goal man leader at 20 when we host the cup and a 3rd for Cole and Woods. We had to take a loss on Woods to trade him. We couldn't give him top 2 line mins or pp which is his style of game. His game doesn't… Read more »
