ARGOS 27 BOMBERS 20

WINNIPEG – A.J. Jefferson returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown to spark the Toronto Argonauts to their fifth come-from-behind win this season with a 27-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday.

The Argonauts (5-2) were down 17-14 heading into the fourth quarter when Jefferson took Lirim Hajrullahu’s punt and weaved down the field for the major at 3:44 to give the Argos their first lead.

On the following series, Bombers quarterback Robert Marve, making his first pro start, completed a pass to Rory Kohlert, but he fumbled and the ball was recovered by defensive end Ricky Foley.

Toronto took over at Winnipeg’s 43-yard line and put together a nine-play, 43-yard drive, including a third-and-one gamble, that ended with Tori Gurley holding onto a five-yard pass from Trevor Harris in the end zone at 10:26.

Argos kicker Ronnie Pfeffer hit the post on his convert attempt and the score stayed at 27-20.

Winnipeg had two possessions to try to retake the lead, but Marve couldn’t pull off any magic with his feet or his arm and turned the ball over on downs with 24 seconds left.

Just think how well the Bombers would have done with Willy in the game!
