ARGOS MINICAMP DAY 2 REPORT

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts returned to the field at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida for their second day of the Argos rookie-free agent camp on Monday.

Led by Head Coach Scott Milanovich, Day 2 was once again high tempo that featured increased competition amongst the offensive and defensive units, especially during the 7-on-7 skelly period.

The defence, led by new defensive coordinator Rich Stubler, dominated the opening practice with a strong performance by the secondary which had an interception or pass breakup on the first five plays of the period.

“Every training camp I have ever been in which is 47 of them, the defence is always ahead of the offence at the start”, said Stubler. “So, we got our eyes in the right spot, we learned some things, we got a little better from day one to day two.”

As part of his staff and as a former player under Stubler’s system, Jordan Younger liked how quickly the players were picking up the defensive system.

“We had a good morning”, said Argonauts defensive backs coach Jordan Younger. “In the afternoon the offence came out and they were real competitive and had a better afternoon. But the morning practice was really good. It was promising to see the guys pick up the system to so quickly.”

Led by Argonauts quarterback Logan Kilgore, the Argos offence rebounded in the afternoon session and made a statement immediately as the California native connected with receiver Kenny Shaw on a long pass up the seam. The offence continued dominating hooking up for eight consecutive pass completions, the majority of which we’re converted into first downs. Receivers Devon Wylie, Da’Rick Rogers, Phil Bates and Malcolm Williams also made solid catches in the afternoon session.

The Double Blue will return to the field on Tuesday morning at 8am for their final practice of rookie-free agent camp.
