BAD NEWS FOR RIDERS

new-riders-gray-1

It was carnage at Mosaic Stadium for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday.

Global TV Regina’s Taylor Shire Tweeted this just before 5:00 pm MT: “Riders GM Jeremy O’Day confirms LB Larry Dean, DB Nelson Lokombo, DE Freddie Bishop, RB Jonathan Femi-Cole have all suffered a torn Achilles tendon during today’s workout.”

3DownNation’s Justin Dunk has more on the Larry Dean injury here.

Meanwhile in Edmonton, Elks broadcaster Dave Campbell Tweeted: “The Elks have suffered another hit to their tackle position. OL Colin Kelly has suffered a torn pectoral muscle during training. He will undergo surgery and the expected time frame for recovery is 3-5 months.”

What’s with all these injuries?

I think i can explain that type of injury. These guys are huge men and based on position(s) the equivalent of grizzly bears for strength/speed. These guys have not moved in close to 2 yrs. To then go all out in an intense, high impact collision contact it is a disaster waiting to happen. The reality is no veterans are getting cut unless it is a salary dump. There is no need to do a traditional camp and have them hammer the crap out of each other. Pick your vets, go padless, walk through the skeems. Then tune it up… Read more »

Yes it was avoidable, management to blame.

Lolly is a fool. Management wasn’t there because they were mandated not to be for these pre training camp work out sessions.

Management gave the approval for the on field training, day 3 now. they were watching. Why do think the gm had an emergency media communique. You guys know nothing of what transpired.

you know nothing about it either lolly pop. The players were given the option of using the facility if they chose to, no supervision, no coaches, just work out, stretch and run. The players chose to be there and organize whatever drills they did. Look at the comments in articles from other players who were there. Nothing to see here except a few players givin it too hard and flexing their muscles to other players. So take off will ya

The injury happen before training camp started ,so the players were not in pads and were working out without coaches on the field, most of these injuries happen in non contact drills and from players running and cutting on the field. Most likely over training in the off season to get ready. So the muscle’s are bigger and maybe lacked flexibility needed to run and stop quickly on the field

I read a memo from the CFLPA on this topic that was posted on 3downnation. . Typical BS from the union!! I’ve dealt with unions and their first comment is always – it’s the employers fault not ours!!! They make reference to “the teams are clearly not interested in the health and safety of the players”. What a bunch of crap and BS by these morons who wrote this memo. How about some responsibility by each player to watch out for their own health and safety !!! Unions are so full of crap they are all the same

Bad move by all allowing that humongous skating rink on the Taylor Field turf at Mosaic. 4 achilles injuries in a 6 minute span. That surface weight of all that water and product not conducive to proper maintenance. Expect more the dmsame injury in the while.
