BEAVERS END RED SOX SEASON

The Weyburn Beavers ended the Regina Red Sox season with an 11-5 win at Currie Field on Friday.

Weyburn won the first-round WMBL series 3-1.

The Beavers bats were hot early as they hit their way to an 6-1 lead after three innings. Carlos Flores had an MVP night as he cranked a homer and double and added two RBI. Luis Jimenez had three hits and scored three runs for the Beavers.

Regina did mount a late comeback with three runs in the eighth inning. One of the few Red Sox highlights was when Derek Slate went yard in the third inning to put the Regina on the score board.

Weyburn starter Conner DiNaro shut down the Red Sox offence. Regina managed just 4 hits and 3 runs over 7 innings against the junior from Mayville State University.

Dalton England, the Gilbert, AZ product was lifted by Manager Mitch MacDonald after three innings.  England was hit for six runs on six hits before leaving the game. It was bullpen by committee as the Sox used five relievers to finish the game.

560 fans were at Currie Field to watch 5th year veteran Jordan Schulz play his last game as a Red Sox.
