BEDARD/EVANS SHARE PATS’ TORCHEY SCHELL AWARD

REGINA – An exceptional rookie and a veteran who continues to blossom.

That combination was acknowledged Friday by the Regina Pats, as the pair of Connor Bedard and Ryker Evans split the Torchey Schell Top Scorer award for the 2020-21 season.

Bedard, who skated away with gold at the IIHF U18 World Championship Thursday night in Texas, registered 28 points in (12G-16A) 15 games before leaving the Pats to join Team Canada. The North Vancouver, B.C. product departed the team leading the WHL in scoring and carried that success over into the U18 event where he tallied 14 points (7G-7A) in seven games.

Evans appeared in all 24 Pats games this season, earning three goals and 25 assists. He currently sits second in WHL defencemen scoring, as the B.C. and U.S. divisions navigate the final week of their regular season schedules.

The 28 points marked another jump forward in Evans’ offensive production after he had 31 points in 63 games (7G-24A) last season, when he was named the Pats top defender.

The remaining Pats 2020-21 season awards will be released as follows:

  • Monday, May 10: Rick Rypien Memorial Award – Unsung Hero
  • Tuesday, May 11: Bill Hicke Most Popular Player
  • Wednesday, May 12: Charles Johnston Memorial Top Defenceman
  • Thursday, May 13: Nick Papas Rookie of the Year
  • Friday, May 14: Three Star Award
  • Monday, May 17: Player of the Year

Once again this season the Bill Hicke Most Popular Player Award will be selected by Pats fans. The Regiment can click here for the online poll, which closes at 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 9.
