BLADES 6 PATS 4
REGINA — The Regina Pats waited far too long to start playing and wound up with a 6-4 loss to the Saskatoon Blades Friday night in the Brandt Centre. The Pats spotted their East Division rivals a 5-0 lead before staging a furious third period rally which came up just short.
Saskatoon led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Nick Zajac and Josh Paterson and upped their lead to 3-0 after 40 minutes thanks to Nikita Soshnin’s 5th of the year.
Soshnin struck again 1:03 into the third and Terrell Draude made it 5-0 with a powerplay goal at 4:10. With the Pats chasing the play all game, it appeared all that was left to question was if Saskatoon goalie Brock Hamm would hang on for the shutout.
However the Pats we know came to life at 5:23 of the third when Adam Brooks potted his team-leading 17th of the year to spoil the shutout bid. And then Regina kept coming with a succession of goals from Colton Kroeker, Austin Wagner and Taylor Cooper to make it 5-4 with 3:03 to play.
However Saskatoon’s Mason McCarty ended the threat with an empty-netter with just 9.6 seconds remaining.
With the loss, the Pats have dropped back-to-back games on this pre-Christmas homestand.
Pats Coach & GM John Paddock is likely very concerned with the play of his team. That’s two straight games where his club has been outworked and looked disinterested AT HOME. Still, they’re in a playoff spot nearing the Holiday break.
NOTES: The Blades outshot the Pats 38-34 … Regina was 1/6 on the powerplay and 1/3 killing penalties … Tyler Brown took the loss in the Pats net …The attendance was 3578.
Regina (15-15-4) hosts Moose Jaw Saturday at 7:00 on 620 CKRM.

Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats Hockey Club announced today defenceman Liam Schioler (’98) has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team and was in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Saskatoon Blades.
Liam Schioler was the Pats’ second round pick (28th overall) in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. The 6’3”, 200 lbs defender is a native of West St. Paul, MB but played his midget hockey at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota. He played in 110 games while picking up 31 points (4G, 27A) to go with 144 penalty minutes.
Schioler started this season with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. The 17 year old suited up for 22 games with the Stars while posting three assists and 21 penalty minutes. While in Lincoln, Schioler was rated as a ‘C’ skater by the Central Scouting Service on the September and November ‘Watch List’ for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
The Blue and White also announced the team has recalled under-age defenceman Dawson Barteaux from the Yellowhead Chiefs of the MMHL. Barteaux was the teams’ first round pick (14th overall) in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. The Foxwarren, MB product has 11 points (3G, 8A) in 19 games this season.

Ever since Regina decided to join the 21st century and install a centre ice score clock, they really think they're something.
Well guess what, the Saskatoon Blades have beat the Pats three times in a row now, and that ain't saying much.
The Huskies, the Hilltops, and now the Blades…..all beating up Regina teams. Lol.
Paddock keeps saying it's the players responsibility to play a full game. Maybe he doesn't have the team he thinks he has. Since Jan this year they are below .500 and the worst part is they're not getting any better. There is little grit and no leadership. Maybe he better send a message and overhaul his lineup. If it don't get fixed they won't make the playoffs. If the players are good enough then the spotlight has to go elsewhere.
Maybe Gavin and Shaun should pony up the cash to lure Kelly McCrimmon away from Brandon? Nah that wouldn't be good, him and Rod are enemies.
Glad to see the Blades back after that disaster of a Memorial Cup run. Bob Woods seems to know what he's doing and he's got owners with deep pockets backing him up.

The Toronto Maple Leafs couldn't get McCrimmon out of Brandon. Doubtful the Pats could.
Say what you want about the third period comeback but the truth of the matter is that was a horrible hockey game played by two horrible major junior hockey teams. The 2 minute sequence that led up to the blades first goal was some of the worst hockey I have ever seen at that level. This was a poor hockey game, as was the one before it, and the one before it, and the one before it. In fact the one game they were able to win they nearly blew. We were supposed to be a year behind Brandon meaning we should have a team similar to Brandon was last year. Not even close. They were predicting big things in three years.
